Even if he hasn't got the manager/ceo/... of that company on speed-dail?

Yep I've contacted other companies that I have no connection with or haven't spent thousands of pounds with, (or if they are on here I've pm'd them) or in extreme circumstances I've just pulled the thread to protect IPC.

Obviously if the originator of the post has grounds for complaint then the thread stays until proven otherwise. :)

I can't imagine you would be under the impression that because Snooks has been able to offer us some useful information in one case he will now be both able and compelled to do the same in all future cases.

That is exactly what I mean - if he does so for Crusader, why not for everybody else?

On that bombshell, I'm off to bed.

Have to say if the OP hoped to deter us using Crusader then he has failed spectacullarily. I havent used Crusader before but after reading some of the positive feedback in the thread I would definitely consider using them next time.

I would hope he would offer any relevant facts he could get his hands on if a person or company was misrepresented in some way. I thought the e-mails sent by Crusader very useful in understanding the situation.

It is clear from all this that a good number of us have had direct contact with Crusader and value their service, products and advice. I don't see corroborating stories to suggest any trail of "stealing my deposit". The claim in question is unsupported by the offer of a full refund of deposit and the rest is just lowbrow clatter.

Most of us know the typical response from a British supplier would be to enforce the sale and pursue for the complete sum, plus costs. Not a hint of such here despite justification. Even provocation. Crusader has behaved reasonably and the intending purchaser has not.

Any objective reading would conclude that Crusader come up smelling of roses. They have had my business for years and this thread confirms the wisdom of my choice.

+ 1 again. If I were Paul Lees, I would be quietly congratulating myself on the wisdom of requesting that the original post be allowed to run while providing the evidence to support my case, albeit through an intermediary. By allowing Snooks to see the email trail, Paul has enhanced the credibility of his defence; if he were to come on the forum himself, I imagine that this could have turned in to a rather sordid tussle over who said what, unless the complete text of the email exchange was made public, which might in turn raise a different storm.

Obviously YM have a very good relationship with Crusader, but it doesn't appear to me that this relationship has been abused in any way. I have never met Snooks, but all his posts appear to be considered and evidence-based, so I would instinctively respect his judgement on this issue.

If I were the OP and wanted to continue with contributions to this forum, I think I would hold my hands up to an error of judgement in making what appears to be an unfounded allegation and hope that this would allow it all to blow over.

.. I think you should have encouraged him to have engaged personally with his customers.... after all isnt that what a good business should do??

..

Most definitely not and Rocna's efforts to do so on this forum illustrate what happens if you do.

Any business will always get unreasonable and sometimes even dishonest customers ( not suggesting that was the case this time -I just dont know) but the best thing to do is to shut up and move on. It is impossible to maintain an argument if there is no one to argue against so the comments die more quickly without responding than if you join in a verbal slanging match.

My two bits

Well done Mr Snooks in a 'damned if you publish damned if you dont'situ I think it was extremely honest to step in and helpful. Sorted.

Forums exist to moan and winge so the less Crusaders own posts appear, the better IMO.

And to the OP. Well you got your deposit back, but in fact you were always going to. Crusader play a long game with regard to their happy customers. I hope that your boat/export job/sailbuilding all comes together well in the end, it sounds like you were rather stressed at the time. never easy juggling it all.

Got to say I sometimes wish that companies would exercise their legal rights and take posters to the cleaners when libelled. Its altogether too easy for someone with an agenda to blacken the reputation of a perfectly good business by publishing on the internet

It's far too expensive and risky to do much about it for most companies. Even if they win the added danger is that they can appear to have been vindictive.

In any event, in most instances, the truth has a way of coming out. In this case Crusader have come out of it looking pretty good. In the case of Marine Megastore ( I hope I've got the right one there!) there's been so many complaints about poor service that I'm sure it is an accurate reflection of what they are really like. Rocna were revealed for what they were.

I can't actually think of a single case in which a company has been unfairly maligned and the "accuser" has got away with it. I can, however, think of some companies that have made themselves look foolish, usually by making silly, pompous or aggressive postings. (UltraLeds comes to mind)

And give the entire years profits to some Barrister and his chums? In the vain hope that when you win the opposition will have the wedge and the honesty to pay up?

Not when your product and service shine out.

I have been on the wrong side of being right, and now I know when to stay schtum, keep your powder dry, and fight another day.
