Covid UK Prices

Owning a boat brings a lot of financially wide ranging variables.
I don't think it will make any difference. People who can afford boats can stand a few tax changes.
This .

There will be a few people who stretched themselves to this limit and a few people who will buy a slightly smaller boat or not at all.

But boat ownership is play money by definition - very few people NEED a boat. They have the spare cash to have one.

I think this describes it well but Gibraltar is going through all sorts of stuff at the moments so not conclusive in my view but replace by non Schengen country.

So Tony's assertion that 'there's no need to pay VAT on new boat' relies on sailing it to Gibralter and back every 18 months! 😄

That's not a terribly practical solution for the average, say, Galeon 365 parked in Hythe Marina. :)

my boat is based in mallorca. So yes I/someone will get take it to Algiers (and back) in one day and hence avoid any vat/iva. For every £1m of boat thats a £200k saving. May cost £10k (at most inc fuel) for the day. Get to £2m+ and a great saving.

And it assumes you do t actually want to use your boat in your country of residence.

Not everybody wants to fly to their boat each time.

Why do we still talk of Brexit, prices and COVID prices . They are history prices . In Torquay boats are selling regularly and big money.

That's good that they are selling but Some boats are far over priced to what they are really worth / are hence why they sit on the market for over a Year and only worth what someone is prepared to pay for one.

What about the not so big money boats eg like a 20 to 25 year old Princess/Fairline/Sealine . Are they selling regularly in Torquay and if so are the selling prices greater or less than history prices ?

History prices are history, some people decide what boat they want and wait thinking they are coming down and end up never boating. Where you have a budget , you have to get the boat that suites you for your budget. Take me I want to go for a P50 but my budget won’t stretch even for a shit one ,so I am dreaming really ,like a lot of boaters.

I’ve recently completed on a 1999 Princess 4t0, a particularly nice example of one. I paid about £1k more than the previous owners paid for it in 2019, so in this specific case there’s been a tiny increase in paper value, but in reality it has depreciated by the inflation over the period. No idea what I could sell it for in 5 years of course, that’s not the point.

Prices seem to be coming down VERY Slowly.

Been looking at Axopar 28's in the UK - Pre Covid second hand around £75K for early model. this went up to £110K or more now appears to be just below £100K
