Cost to replace UV strip on sails

As mentioned, taking the old one off yourself saves a lot of wonga. Our school boats sails always took a hammering so I got good at this.

I am surprised nobody has discussed the merits of different UV strip material. Dscron is a common cloth for a UV strip in the UK. It is cheaper than acrylic canvas. Acrylic canvas will likely out last the sail and can be sewn on with Gore Tenara thread. It has far superior UV resistance. The only down side to acrylic canvas is it's less durable from chafe than Dacron. We have always had new sails specified with acrylic canvas UV strip apart from the sail the current boat came with. We had to replace the dacron strip with acrylic canvas. I think for new sails dacron UV strip are a false economy

I've stopped having UV strips .... and so far haven't see any reason to resume them.

If the boat is in Med and subject to a lot of hot sun - yes OK. But in northern climes ?
Mine lasted 7 years on 2 sails in S UK!
