Anyone give me a heads up on what/how she has managed to get the boat wet? I got fed up trying to read all about her or her boat and got on with life instead.

First you have to declare you interest ...... are you a "Hugger" or a "Negativer" , (It is important to some posters here ) Anyway probably by the crane pictured craning the boat in as posted by Preston Marina ...... Was it in this thread or the 'other one" even I'm bloody confused now !!

I just feel it's disappointing that it can be so much fuss to launch a medium sized boat, which any of the big South Coast marinas would have done for about £500 with no drama.
No wonder most boating happens down here if it's so expensive and difficult in 'the North'.

I suspect that many southern yard would have problems on a boat of that size if they didn't have a travel hoist. As has been pointed out, Fleetwood - a short low loader ride away from Preston - can easily deal with 50+ tons.

Well, despite the wait, and the speculation, and all the negative vibes, I can remember when Chiron made it back to the salty stuff and it felt like a bit of an event so I wish Elisemore well.

Being a bit tight for cash I can understand the consternation at finding it wasn't going to be as easy as I thought with the rose tinted glasses on. I have rose tinted glasses too, but I end up paying full whack anyway.

I'm not a bit brassed off that someone has the front to get someone else to subsidise their fun but I like to do it as a hobby not as a business.

It is interesting the jealousies that seem to come out about sponsorship. Sponsorship has some real obligations to the sponsor. After all they don't usually sponsor out of generosity but they do take a gamble on the outcome.
The story of Strange Voyage of Donald Crowsthorne (I hope I have go his name right) is a classic case of the obligations to sponsors bearing down on the sailor in difficulties. His optimism needed to get sponsorship was not matched by reality and he could not face the consequences. As Aquaplane says far better to do your own thing without obligations to sponsors.
I don't find it so surprising that Ellie has gone silent in the face of delays after so much hype to the sponsors and public including this forum.(optimism dashed by reality) I hope she can eventually share the story. olewill

Crowhurst. quite a tale.

Re ellie I enjoyed her story. The nasty people on here ruined it. I am interested in her tale, and don't give a flying f*** whether a load of nasty, jealous people do or don't like the tale. But on every mention of her boat, on a boat forum, the nasty people just have to keep reminding us how nasty they are and take the thread away from the boat.

Anyone remember the Noah of Penarth Marina way back in about2002/2003 ? What ever happened to him and his family ? I seem to,remember an incident with a lock gate and a sinking very similar story but different innit .:)

He and his family are well and living in a house. Next door to my grandparents. Lovely people.

The boat was never the story. The story was the 23 year old girl's dream, and how she was trying to achieve it.

That's about the sum of it unfortunately.

Someone will be along shortly to tell you how wrong you are, that they can write whatever they like and it doesn't have to conform to your/our standards and continue the creepy stalking around the internet of a young girl.

A dream lived through a boat. That wouldn't exist without the boat. With loads of boaty details of how its achieved. Which bit of that isn't a boat story? On a boat forum. Where it should be.

A twenty three year old woman is not a "young girl". And what's this creepy stalking around on the internet of which you speak? I thought the chap who went to Preston and tried to track Eleanor down was being a bit creepy.

If the dream wouldn't exist without the boat then it's not really a dream, is it? I don't dream of owning an elderly VW Golf because I actually do own an elderly VW Golf.

That aside, the boat in this case isn't terribly interesting. It's an old fishing boat with a houseboat conversion. The interesting bit is the human drama, and that will take its own direction. As it has.

Perhaps the story will pick up again, but only if things go interestingly wrong. If it's "after some sea trials we set off for Brighton and arrived after an uneventful trip" it'll be as noteworthy as the hundred and hundreds of small craft which go from the Irish Sea to the English Channel each year. A few storms, a bit of engine trouble, an alien abduction, that's the sort of thing which will make it interesting. And no, I'm not being beastly to Britney - just look at all the stories of disaster the magazines print.

Thanks for making my point. I do find the boat interesting. And as its a boat forum I wish to be able to read about it. If you don't find it interesting fine, I don't care. **** off and talk about it on the victor meldrew forum where you belong.
