Delighted for Ellie to have got the blog up again and sommat positive to write about ( with great pictures).

Bet the sponsors are delighted too-a new generation, a young 'can do' attitude.. The next generation coming into boating, in a less elitist way.. Wahaaaay

And , on a more personal note, in these days of absurd starter home prices , I am delighted for Ellie that she has a new home, with, acc to her blogs earliest posting iirc, a separate bedroom and all.
Never mind the Rayburn!

Doing better than I did at that age. My sincerest continuing best wishes..

I am arguably an old goat (well old but not as nimble) and I had plenty of sympathy during my "adventure".

That just about sums up this whole debate. Your adventure involved diving on a sunken MFV to locate a breach in the hull, plug it and then through extraordinary effort with your son refloat her and save the boat, it was a gripping drama and you kept your avid readers constantly up to date.

Ellie on the other hand hadn't quite saved up enough money to have her MFV launched and had to wait a few weeks until she could share a launch with the next door boat. During which time she unfairly criticised the marina for what was happening.

For the extraordinary human endeavour of "waiting a bit" she is defended against the nearest whiff of criticism by vitriolic posts lambasting those who don't share the posters' misty eyed almost infatuation. She's done alright, she's got a big wooden boat. It's not ugly, it looks like it would be fun to live on. As floating homes that can move a bit I reckon it's way better than I could have managed, but then by 23 I'd bought a house and was working full time so my sailing was in a Contender on a lake (mad boat that one).

No one on here at all - even Admiral Clyst - has ever critised her for buying the boat or wanting to live the dream. Some criticism for her comments about the marina, some criticism for her not keeping her readers up to date when she'd used them to get sponsorship.

But a hero? A role model? If waiting-a-bit is now worthy of adulation then it's no wonder young people have so little resilience. Look at the resilience you and your son showed - it doesn't really compare does it? Now do you see why some of us have no time for those for whom Ellie is portrayed as a great heroine?

Her forthcoming blog on the trip to Brighton, if she keeps it up to date, will likely be fascinating reading and I'm looking forward to it.

Lets just get on with sailing shall we!

I've got to launch, first. However, Eleanor has inspired me to show determination, courage, indefatigability and a youthful can-do approach, and I have worked out a plan. I'm going to ... wait for it ... give a bloke with a crane some money to do the job. I'm living my dream and it'll be a fantastic adventure.

We're a bit stuck at anchor. Wind is too strong and over tide to go over the bar and the dogs want to go ashore. But with pluck and valour we'll have a cup of tea and wait until the wind dies down. Meantime we'll take the children and dogs ashore on the beach for a run around and lots of toileting. Despite what I said earlier about not keeping the public updated with descriptions and photos - if it's OK with you we'll take the dog poo as read shall we?

Wow, with that kind of "can-do" attitude i am surprised you're not inundated with sponsors for fenders, anchors, chart plottt.............zzzz:encouragement:;)

Ellie was provided with these because she asked - because her can-do attitude extends to can-ask and can-understand-today's-click-driven-market.

The sponsors are happy with the arrangement and I, for one, feel better disposed towards them and their products as a result.

now look here lazy fish I am not worthy of promotion to Admiral ....... Yet!.... but I thank you for backing . Also I can't be arsed to change my signature :) .... see what I done there ? I put a smiley to indicate that I'm indulging in a bit of light banter. Something huggers don't understand or too love struck to notice .Before I get lambasted for that comment here's another one :)

You can change your username if you ask the Mods, when you do maybe you should leave out the S.

After all, it is sometimes referred to as "the man in the boat".

Ellie has ignored the forum, the boat is afloat, no more long tedious threads about it - Hoorah!

The most entertaining thing about these threads is all the accusations levelled at Ellie without her once claiming to be doing anything other than telling folks what she was doing. So she got some bits of kit given to her. Well done for asking. So she ignored all you crusty old folks who did nothing but snipe from the sidelines. Well done. I think that this is what sticks in the craw of the nay sayers: she ignored you instead of getting involved in some useless exchanges with you. Well done. I've said my bit. Bye.

Many thousands of boats will be returning to the water during the spring, 99.9% of them with no sponsorship, social media campaign or general hoo-haa (technical term) - Yes, the girl done good (eventually), but it's hardly the heroic effort you might think from some of the sycophantic responses.

FWIW you, Jumbleduck and a few others have got my support as well. Without the comments that you are all making this little story would have faded away long ago. The antagonism that your comments have generated as people rush to defend a serial blagger is astonishing.

So the ol' MFV has been launched and has dusty bilges so where to now as Brighton has a no liveaboard policy . lying low and not making waves is ok on a common or garden yacht but a bit difficult on a high profile much publicised hefty MFV houseboat which isn't easily slid into a normal finger berth. Change of plan or is it still on for Brighton ??
