We are not religious observants, but the former is always a pleasant relaxed family day (though both myself and one of my daughters have occasionally had to work that day in the past).

Hogmanay's just a normal working day, followed by a nice meal and maybe a glass or two of wine.

The midnight (New Year's Day), round the neebs, chuck a piece of coal onto their electric fire, "lang may yer lum reek" as smoke and fumes fill the room, drink whisky, play guitar/mandolin/bazooki and sing Scottish songs until the words slobber, lose grip on the plectrum, lose grip on life, return home around 0500.

Next morning or early afternoon, hit the Irn Bru etc, try to remember where you left the gear, remember saying something inappropriate, hope they've forgotten.

It's terrible.

New Year - cos with any luck we'll be at the boat and planning an outing on New Year's Day. See you on the River Dart if any of you are there /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

New Years Eve, the one you spend with friends as opposed to Christmas, the one you spend with family. Family are fine, but for me frinds are better/forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Except that one of my spaniels died last NYE, still sadly missed.

Christmas this year because I'll be spending this one with my 2 grandsons in Wales. If anyone fancies a dip in the sea Boxing Day let me know because I have bought the whole family sea kayaks for prezzies and we will probably have to try them out if the boys have there way......Bbbrrrrrrrr.

Love Christmas now we've changed the rules a bit- during the day we do something outdoors- this year it's going to be beach and surf boards with butties, then have a proper evening meal. The food is now anything we fancy really as Turkey is not the most exciting meat. This year it's big rib of beef. New Years Eve is always a bit of a let down as previously one of us has always been working. looking forward to this year though as we have loads of friends coming round, and then hopefully a sail on New Years Day.

Big Xmas fan.

Always tried to make Christmas Day special even more so when the boys still believed in Santa.

Big tree ( tastefully decorated), pillow cases at the bottom of the bed, more pressies under the tree, bucks fizz in the morning, prezzie giving sessions that seemed to go on all morning, watching kids out on their bikes etc. Great.

Then SWMBO who is a wonderful cook does us proud and then we go for a walk late afternoon to get some air and walk off that turkey.

Xmas is more of an event whereas New Year's Eve is all about moment.

Personal opinion obviously.

I start on the red wine, oh, about 1st Jan by Xmas day I should be getting on through about 365 bottles, of course I may have a day off for a couple of beers, in that case it may be a few less. I'm doing a trip down to St malo on the weekend before Xmas to stock up with the adult grape juice, trouble is, its a hell of a job creating space on the wine rack, I must have drunk to much beer this year!
