Cheapest would be in 'Boats for Sale, under 10000' magazine or maybe 'exchange and mart'. and the most expensive in the more expensive magazine broker ads.
Or I could sell you mine at a grossly inflated price??

You're a bit behind the times old mate. I think you mean "Buy a Boat" magazine - under £20,000" don't you? The one with a fantastic bargain in it - my Fairline Fury for a mere eight big ones??

on the south coast, the further west you go, the cheaper things get. You could save 5-10% by going down to Devon or Cornwall to buy, compared with the Solent area.

If you have time and patience watch the Essex Boatyards web site, I got an absolute bargain over Xmas, could not believe I had nothing to do to the boat when I got it. May need a new canopy by next year but that's it, but you need to be patient!

North Wales boatyards seem to have some very reasonably priced boats, in the south they seem to ask the same price for a particular model regardless of condition.
Remember though the boat is only worth what someone will pay for it, there are no price guides, always offer 20% less than the asking price and take it from there.

True, but you get two or three nice weekend breaks, and a long first cruise home. And anyway, it all depends on your budget: 10% on a 200k boat is an awful lot of trips to Cornwall...

Agree with everyone else....looked at Bayliners on south coast, esp Poole. Wouldn't budge much on a tatty 2455 that had been for sale for about 15 months!
Used Nationwide at Chesterfield for both boats. Central location too. Take what the salesmen say with a pinch of salt...talk to the yard guys!! This year picked up a 1988 Cruisers Int Holiday 224 for £10k..advertised for £12500!..enough left for a smart trailer from SBS.
Nationwide can be a bit of a 'graveyard' for some boats, but there are some bargains..(new canopies/polish etc works wonders)
An equivalent year 224 with diesel advertised in MBM recently for £20995!!!
I'm going to re-engine with a recon GM V8 diesel for less than £5k

Yeah, but come on Chris, our 224s are a bit special, 'cos we've put some time into them...I certainly wouldn't sell mine for £10k...the guy just wanted rid. Lets face it where else would you find a cracking sea boat, hot water, shower, sea loo, 6 berths, teak woodwork..no exposed GRP in cockpit (with full standing headroom), luxury linings, all instrumentation, power steering/tilt/trim/, trim tabs, big cockpit, 2 seperate cabins and a glowing report from MBM in 1991 to boot. AND TRAILERABLE!!!!.
I rest my case y'honour.

I think the advise about a bit cheaper further west is right.
Mind you when you round Lands End and come into the Bristol Channel, you will find boats that can never get out this year ....

I searched for a boat last year and spent on trvelling long distances to see rubbish. In the end I reversed the trend and bought in an expensive Marina on the South Coast then brought it to the Bristol Channel.

In practice, boats are a bit like houises, folks tend to hold on to them and dry up supply in a waek market. I am not sure there is a huge difference in prices by location , certainly the prices in Swansea are about the same as on the South Coast, if not on some occasions a bit more expensive because of the isolation?

We bought our Sealine 218 at Essex.Took time to sell old boat so had plenty of time to look around and most 218's were 16,000 to 20,000.Went to Essex and looked at 2 both same year at £14,000 but then made offer on one for £12,000 and was accepted!!!
Have a feeling it was a stock boat.
Needed new canopy which we have just done and a few minor maintainence jobs but for so much less money was a real bargain.
Like you we were wondering what was wrong with it being so cheap but if you watch web site all the boats are cheap there.
Found walton Marine to be very expensive.
Also worth enquiring about stock boats as you could p/ex if you want to.
In reply to other post hope person who makes offers of 20% less than asking price is open to offers when he sells his boat !!!

Are they really that good? I am looking for something similar to what you describe. Decent sized cockpit for 4 on day trips, good accomadation for 2 on long weekends or maybe a week if river cruising. A loo/shower that her goodself can stand upright in-5ft 10- yet be able to move about, and a decent bed to sleep in. Being trailerable means I can keep it at home over the winter. they look a bit odd but then so does a Princess 25 that I am considering? Got a copy of the MBM report from their reprints and they certainly give it a good report, do you agree? How long have you got yours? There is one at Penton Hook for £13950 for a while know; was considering that.

Yes, I considered that at Penton Hook...advantage is smaller engine..not V8.
I think they're that good, from a safety angle alone (foam flotation!!).
I'd definitely knock them down....
All I mentioned in a trailerable form has got to be good. Also the MBM report says she's a brilliant sea boat!! She looks traditional, yet nice and sporty. Post reply to Chris above my previous post..see what he says..and Dom used to have one too. Good luck.

Of course I'll accept 20% less, because I will ask 20% more than I want. This is what all the brokers do. Your example is positive proof of what boats can really change hands for if you push a bit. Were all the boats you first saw really worth 4-8K more? with the exception of cosmetic bits probably not, but someone less shreud or new to boating will probably pay it eventualy (not a contributer to this board though), hopefully this mug will buy boat eventualy ;-)
