Forget it. There's no such thing as a cheap summer berth. In the med, tho, you anchor out lots - perhasp the whole summer, but would be wise to stay on it most of the time of course

A little bit of a generalisation? There is more of the coat line the dreaming Lady is refering to that you can't anchor off than you can, isn't there?

When you leave France into Spanish waters, the "cheapest" marina you will come to first is Port Olimpico in Barcelona which would cost you about £200 a month all in. Port Vell is very much more in summer, but cheaper in winter.

One thing about Barcelona is the cheap flights; we are going every month at the moment and so far this year we haven't paid more than £42 for a return ticket with Easy Jet.

If you are looking for a long term berth, send me a PM and I'll give you the number of an English speaking chandlery that has berths in Port Olimpico.

If you are interested in S Brittany, Lorient, try calling Locmiquélic 33-2-9733-5951.

They are as reasonable as you get and have space available for larger boats.

Depending on your draft, you could try the Canals, in some places its free and in others its "cheap", and is probably the only cheap place on that Coast!

HI,

What do you mean by cheap? Are you planning to stay onboard or are do you want to be able to leave it somewhere?

I am regularly up and down this coast and there are some very cheap berths and also places to anchor to be found on the Atlantic side of Spain/Protugal but most are not secure enough to leave the boat unattended for any lenght of time.

Once in the MED the Spanish just do not have enough marina berths for all the people who want them so prices go up and up. Outside of the Balerics there is a shortage of good anchor spots so...........you pay up of go to Africa or the Eastern MED although Malta, Sardinia and Corsica can be expensive and often full up.

Some of the marinas in Portugal are reasonably cheap. Nazere springs to mind as just one example - this place has the advantage of an english harbourmaster - he's a little excedntric but will help arrange most things for you. But it's not exactly easy to get to by land and there is not much to do there once you arrive! F. Da Foz is another place but prices seem to vary depending on who you talk to there. Lisbon and specifically Cascais is mega expensive wiht prices similar the the English south coast though.

Please let us have some more detail......

Hi
I would recomend Lagos in the Algarve a very good marina good shelter we left our boat there last year got a good rate for 9 months to enable me to return to Ireland for knee operations.
For the three summer months it is quite expensive and as far as I know you pay on a daily basis 13-15 mtr E 28 but there are plenty of moorings outside Lagos and all along the coast to Gibralter we shall be returning to Lagos in two weeks if you would like more detailed info let me know.

In the Algarve there are lots of marinas . Lagos is prety good and the twon is probably only real town (not a tourist development) that has yachting facilities unitll you get to V.Real.de San.Ant. I found Porti-Maio (think thats the spelling) cthe cheapest and very safe but the marina is a hike from town. Then there is the new marina between Lagos and Villamoura, Villamoura, Villa-real-de-san-antonio and at least 10 more between Lagos and Gib.

It depends on what you are looking for.

The river between the spanish and protuguese border is over 3m deep for 30 or so Km inland with saft places to anchor. Some villages have pontoons that you can use and some even have water and elec........

I am looking for somewhere to be able to leave the yacht unattended. Am restricted by 2m draft and 15m length. River mooring would be OK.
