Can anyone please help?
I am taking a coastal skipper course with the hope of buying a boat to live aboard(Lucky). After spending many years taking holidays in the Mediterranean this is where I would like to be based. The criteria I have are:
- It needs to be able to be sailed very short handed (I might be on my own, wife is not too happy)
- compatiable with sail charter companies as if im not using the boat I would like to earn an income from it (I am not sure if this is even possible) how many berths are advised?

I know that this is very little to go on and I am hoping the replies will make me ask more questions so as i can whittle it down.

All replies / anecdotes will be greately received.
Niall

As many berths as fit in if your income will be chartering. Large volume med cruiser, Bavaria, Oceanis, S.O. etc. Manouvering becomes an issue in crowded ports in the summer when hopefully you will be loaded with eager and willing French girls who are paying you to have fun.

I suggest you start by talking to the charter companies. They will tell you what they can and cannot charter and any local constraints such as, I believe if you want to charter a boat in Greece, it has to be Greek owned. Most charter companies will want you to buy a Ben/Jean/Bav AWB. If this doesn't suit, then you need to find a charterer who will accept a boat which is nearer to your choice. As a starter for ten, talk to Top Yacht who charter boats out of Gocek, Turkey and are based in Chichester, UK. They have a wide range of boats on their books including Moody, Maxi, Westerly as well as some of the more usual ones as well.

BTW I have no interest in TY besides chartering from them.
