I would have thought Calor would need to have the correct equipment for safely filling different cylinders. Do you have any reason to suspect otherwise?

It seems the wide range of cylinder sizes is the issues . I imagine each size needs its own production line.

To be fair I have only on one occasion, that I can recall, found no Campingaz 907 available locally.
IIRC, the gas bottling plant I visited many years ago just had two lines, propane and butane. The only issue would be differing fittings for the differing(?) cylinder valves

I think you will find it’s not much more than multiple versions of home filling, when I last saw the actual bottle filling plant at calor it was not automated high volume process, it looked like the main supply tank had a heated jacket to raise the pressure though to speed up.

Yes, you're limited to ordering anything you like for home delivery. Nightmare. There are two Depots around Glasgow which will stock everything or refill if you show up in person.

Or stick to Calor who have lots of retail outlets which don't carry these cylinders, never will, and haven't for three years before the announcement. Perhaps just pay double and use those cute little campingaz cylinders so you get to know the Calor retailer really well on your many visits ?‍♀
Bristol gas will refill 4,5 for £22. based in st philips. TAke 2 to make it worth the trip !!

Thanks for that. From their website:

At £5 delivery it is still a bargain compared to 907s as they appear to be still doing refills even though they have the message from Calor on their website. A new full 907 is £108, so changing is not cheap.

Calor permanently closed their depots to the public at some point during the pandemic. That was half of the issue.

The Shell petrol station at the junction of the A31 & A35 (Bere Regis in Dorset) had 5 4.5kg bottles in their cage this afternoon.

@lustyd: You may be interested to hear that I received an email from Tarbert Harbour over the weekend stating that they are planning to stock Flogas 4.5s & 3.9s going forwards.

It's not clear from the email if this means they are changing suppliers completely (the cylinder cages are currently well stocked with Calor/Campingaz bottles in all of the smaller sizes, except 901s) or just stocking these specific sizes from Flogas. Time will tell.

It'll be just my luck if it's the latter, as I'm running on the dregs of a Flogas 7Kg!

That is excellent news, let's hope more harbours and marinas make such a decisive move as it would make the decision a lot easier when you can see a full bottle near the boat!

Some supermarkets in France had full bottles for c55 euro last year, no exchanges. Might be worth thinking about for those planning a trip.

My local distributor (near Arundel) is charging £67.50 for a new cylinder and refill including delivery. Not much use if you are in Dartmouth but might be worth shopping around?

I've just spoken to Yarmouth Harbour, and apparently they would have liked to stock the 4.5kg Flogas bottle but the supplier on the Isle of Wight says he can't take on any more customers, which is a real shame. Worth knowing that Yarmouth also say they can't sell Camping Gaz 907s to new customers, only exchange empties for refills (I'm not sure if this is a stock issue). They recommended Honnor and Jeffrey in Freshwater, but not much good if you are arriving by boat!

So my current plan is to refill my Calor 4.5 butain bottles as they fit the gas locker without any surgery.
I have 2 bottles:
1 on the boat in the gas locker and one at home.
I don't really want to carry the second bottle on the boat as the only place I can store it is in the cockpit locker (not ideal).

So I was wondering if i could carry a couple of the gas cartridges you can get for mini cookers etc as a temporary backup, and couple one to my Calor regulator via an adaptor until I can bring the spare big bottle from home.

There is probably room for 2 or three of these in my gas locker.

Is this doable?

Rather than those ones for cookers I've been looking at the cartridges for blow torches. Much cheaper and havea recognised really to get hold of adaptor. Need a regulator though.
