Over the Easter week end we said good bye to the Solent, and left for our new base in Plymouth.

Left Chichester at 12 oclock Friday - no wind - beautiful sunshine - motored and reached south of Portland by 6 pm - I've never carried a single tide quite so far! - on to Brixham which we reached at 12.30. - remarkable warm moonlit night.

Saturday - Sunshine again - no wind - motor to Salcombe - last time I went there was August - so was pleasantly surprised at how empty it was! For Poole haters - mooring was £7 for 40 ft - (winter rates)

Sunday - Raining - 5-6 south Westerly - time to try the new roller jib - I have finally been persuaded from hanked headsails - motored out over the bar in to deck sweeping seas and then west for plymouth. wonderful sail in 20-25 knots close hauled - 7 knots - who said a motor sailor doesn't sail decently.

New mooring at Torpoint - now all we have to contend with is the traffic on the A303 on a Friday evening.

Any of you down this way want to meet up?

Why not try te Baltic, sun, temp in 30s, warm sea (in summer). Anchor any where free. Lovely scenery.

Take your own booze.

Cheap marinas - if you have to.

Saunas in all harbours and on many isolated islands (just feed the fire).

Up the Tamar beyond Cargreen. The stronger the Easterly the better, the delight of having a strong well found boat with good sailing qualities and long overhangs.

Re: a Good Breeze

Yes - nothing better the a good thrash - I look for 20 Knots to windward and 30 knots on a reach or broad reech - Van de Stadt was a great designer - although a motor sailer - I have had over 10 knots - sustained speed - not surfing - with only one finger on the helm (hydraulic). So have a great sail. perhaps we can meet in the summer?

Re: a Good Breeze

He certainly got it right in the Pioneer. Like you I need the wind to get her going but I suspect I end up wetter than you. I'm looking forward to it and with plenty of crew it should be an easy ride. Drop me a line in a few weeks after I finish exams. This weekend is a delivery break in the revision timetable!

Hang on a minute. You didn't ask if you could come! Oh well Ok then I suppose it's all right. Was hoping to keep as many as possible up there in the Solent Coral. Much more fun down in Devon/Cornwall though. I should know. I live in Lancashire.

We are really looking forward to the west country - we will at least plan weekends, which er in doors would not do in the Solent as she loathed it.

Might see you down there - don't really mind hot water boats!

You need to buy the Chat Show special flag then. So we can all recognise you. Distances place to place are a little longer down there but much friendlier, all though it can still get quite busy in some places.
