I realise that this does not apply in USA but that's the nearest to a set of rules that I'm aware of.

The lower the boom goes, the more chance of a smack on the head. I've got it at: me standing in the cockpit + 10cm (for the speedfreaks: in light winds, the boom has to go higher, lower in hard winds) Obi-Wan http://sirocco31.tripod.com
