Does anybody know of any rules or regulations concerning the height of the boom over the deck or shear of a yacht?

It would be a class rule
My Shipman class has a minimum and maximum height above the mast foot.

There's nothing in Recreational Craft Directive that covers boom height. I realise that this does not apply in USA but that's the nearest to a set of rules that I'm aware of.

I should think that your height plus 6 inches would be about right !

It\'s a compromise
The higher the boom goes, the higher the center of gravity, the more the boat is going to heel.
The lower the boom goes, the more chance of a smack on the head.
I've got it at: me standing in the cockpit + 10cm
(for the speedfreaks: in light winds, the boom has to go higher, lower in hard winds)
