Boating During Lockdown?

We're to be allowed out for recreation.

Staff who can't work at home can come to work.

So marinas should be open and we should be allowed to use them.

As I see it....

I'm not sure what makes a marina open or not but if you can get your boat out to sea then this surely counts as outdoor recreation. So the bar might be shut...is that a big deal? It might be if that is what counts as your boating experience. If no one is about to take your money when you visit a marina....well that's bit more of an issue but i suppose you could pop a tenner through the letterbox.

I received an email from MDL last night that was a little ambiguous but essentially inferred that “you won’t be here, don’t worry we’ll look after your boat”. It doesn’t explicitly say the marinas are closed though. So some clarity needed.

As usual the Prime Minister does not do detail. The changes need to go before the House of Commons on Wednesday and we might get some clarity then.

I guess some staff will be around incase of problems , if that means you can go out sailing or not is another thing.
Most marinas easy this years where close to boat owner who want to go to their boats . Maybe the same again .

for the RNLI,marina staff etc it is not a leisure activity
They are going to be working anyway.
I have been assured by staff at Malahide Marina just before our Level 5 lockdown commenced, two weeks ago, that they will be at work as usual.
I am just about to go and check on my boat after yesterday's storm.

They are not boating, they are working. Or volunteering to care for others.

It's not the same as the previous lockdown.

It's essentially a ban on social activity. Any outdoor recreation should be fine providing you do it either individually or with one other. Doesn't have to be exercise either.
