Following Byron's previous thread:

I call my boat (not ship) a motor boat or motor cruiser, not a motor yacht.
For me motor yachts are fairly serious hunks, perhaps even bordering on small ships?

What do you call yours? (That may be a mistake unless Matts and Paulineb are away for Christmas!!)

I have various names for my boat depending on whether she's behaving or not but my wife calls it a miracle because she says it's the only place she sees me doing any diy

As I have suggested elsewhere a ship is defined in some quarters as any vessel which can be self sufficient at sea, or indeed on any voyage. The Dutch refer to all sensible boats and barges as "schips." In English, "Boat" would seem to be somewhat an understatement for a Nic 55, but quite reasonable for a Sealine 350, say. I do not think there can be a clear defining line, given the Robert Manry's of this world (remember him?), but I have raised eyebrows in the past by calling my 100' Dutch barge a "Schip", and my 25' gaff cutter a yacht. Seem's you can't win in English!!!
