Berth 101

1. Being charged for a marina berth while also being charged for the space in the carpark my boat's occupying while over-wintering ashore.
2. Powerboaters who just don't know or just don't care what effect their high speed close quarters wash has on a small sail boat.
3. Southampton Boat Show. Crowded, tiring, no seating, no decent food. Loads of kit you want but can't afford. Loads of kit you can afford but the day after wonder why you bought.

Can we add in those that put locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn after locking turn on their mooring lines ..... have they not heard of OXO cubes?

I'll have to think of the other 2

- Sikaflex, cos I only ever use about 1/4 of any tube and it costs an arm and a leg
- People who inisit on taking one of your lines then tie you up before you've stopped and so tightly that the other half of the boat swings out at right angles to the pontoon
- People who let their kids swim in marinas

SIBS - when you buy something at the beginning of the day and have top carry it around until kicking out time.

SIBS - when you see something you want and decide to get it just before kicking out time, then you realise you can't remember where the stall is, or it is at the farthest point from the entrance.

SIBS - when you buy something and tell the stall holder you will be back for it later and then forget it, forget where he is or have given away or lost your little map with the stall number written on it.

1. People who are generous enough to share their taste in bloody awful music which they have to play loud enough on their cockpit speakers to drown out the noise of their engines struggling to hold the boat not-quite on the plane because that's the situation at 10 knots.

2. Insurance companies who insist your mooring gear is inspected "professionally" on a regular basis, but won't define 'regular'.

3. The wind which dies away when I set off for a sail and picks up as I return.

I weakened on my last baot and fitted a pair after 6 years. Nice for shelter sitting in the cockpit but they can spoil the view. I don't have any on my latest boat and probably never will.

People who are thoughtless when they tie up alongside.

Experienced skippers who are intolerant of beginners

Beginners who think they know it all.
