Just seen a video by Tom Cunliffe about this navigation app, it look so good. Unfortunately it's not on android yet. Can't wait for it to go with my Samsung galaxy.

It looks interesting.
I'm looking for an alternative to Navionics Boating on Android, as there are some things about it I find quite annoying.
Unfortunately, AngleNav requires Ios 15 and I have afully functional, but coal fired, ipad to use on the boat.

Visitmyharbour raster charts worth a look.

After a rather cursory play with the app I can see that the ability to download satellite charts simply might appeal to those who need them; much simpler than using sat2chart.

Other than that the ability to draw a three-point fix and such is little more than a novelty so may struggle if its intent is to win over die-hard traditionalists towards modern navigation tools and techniques.

Edit - the charts look a little expensive too if I compare to the oensnc ones (vector) that I use with OpenCPN. For the whole of the British Isles and neighbouring regions the cost is about €25 including updates for a year. To cover most of that with the Angelnav ones looks like costing over 8 times more and I can see whether at the end of the year's subscription you can still continue to use them which you can with oesenc but without updates obviously.

I've learned that you can download the 'last compatible version' of navionics on an old ipad and start a 2 week trial.
I'm 'transitioning' from android so still clueless with i-stuff TBH.

I would just like a simple navigation ap with none of the 'active captain community' or dangerous chart data harvested from random people with uncalibrated depth sounders or whatever.
The thing with Navionics Boating is that once your subscription expires it seems useless on a phone but still works in a basic way on a tablet not connected to the internet.

I also have navionics , just putting it out there for a paper chart equivalent when the s..t hits the fan and GPS fails we can all sail away to safer shores, wherever they be. Just need a sextant now.

AngelNav looks very interesting. While the ability to do traditional chartwork on an electronic device seems a contradiction in terms, I think it's an important step in moving to solely electronic navigation, without paper charts. The point being that one should be able to plot a position independent of external sources (e.g. GPS).

Mobile device GPS is usually very reliable - but can lag significantly. I would use the ability to plot a bearing to a landmark to do a quick check of both the device GPS accuracy and the accuracy of the chart itself. Thinking of approaching a small anchorage using Antares charts where we're mixing electronic navigation and eyeball pilotage.

The major shortcoming for me is currently iOS and the robustness of iPads and their battery life and charging connectors, An Android version would be a benefit, as then we have the opportunity to use more rugged devices.

The pricing of the raster charts is a bit of a barrier though. I got the entire UK Admiralty charts on Memory Map For All for the cost of one of the AngelNav folios.

If want UKHO raster charts then MemoryMap is worth a look. Think I paid around £25 for all UK charts for a year, and these are available on multiple devices - so I have on Android phone, IOS iPad and Windows laptop for the single subscription.
Main reason for having is for Antares Charts (Scotland only), but a decent option for simple raster charts - and also use for OS maps for walking on shore.

Thanks, I have been using raster on a laptop, and vector on an android tablet, both running OpenCPN, which I find very good. Wasn't aware of Marine Navigator, but will give it a try - Thanks
As a matter of interest which chart sets do you run on both of these?

I use the Visitmyharbour charts on OpenCPN on a laptop, which I like, but sadly could not run the same ones on the android app, hence the Marine Navigator. Prefer OpenCPN, but it works OK.

Link for Marine Navigator is here (which is no longer on Google Play): About Marine Navigator : by VisitMyHarbour [Marine Navigator android app by Ronald Koenig] - VisitMyHarbour articles
