It appears I have been banned, permanently, from contribution to the PBO section of the Forum. I will thus be unable to initiate threads in PBO on things anchoring nor will I be able to contribute to threads. From recent comments I can imagine that my absence will bring much joy to many but to the few who found my threads of interest - I apologise for my absence. If you need help send me a PM or start your threads in Scuttlebutt, to which I continue to have access.

I emphasise I have no financial interest in things anchoring and my presence on anchor threads reflects an interest and thirst for knowledge. So my posts have no ulterior motives other than to share what I think I know and might be off interest to others. I do not claim to be an expert, and never have - but I am willing to share.

My view is knowledge is of little value unless shared - that idea has been soundly hit on the head. :(

Now - this thread may not stand scrutiny - so if you read it and then it disappears if people query why I'm absent from an anchoring thread in PBO - feel free to point out I have transgressed.

I did think of simply leaving YBW - but that seemed selfish (and I'm sorry if that sounds pompous and arrogant) but I have been thanked for my contributions and I am happy to help if I have the applicable background. By remaining a member, unless the ban is extended, I can receive PMs. I am here voluntarily and I emphasise I derive no financial benefits from being here and if the Members, noting policing by members is encouraged, and Mods deem my presence outside the personality of the Forum - I will swallow that particular anchor.

Hi Jonathan,
I have followed your posts for some time and find them invaluable!
We’ve been cruising 6 months a year for the past 12 years and the more experienced we become the more I agree with most of what you say. Unfortunately there are a number of ‘trolls’ who inhabit this forum who’s main aim seems to be to shut down informed debate!
I can only hope that the forum moderator sees sense & offers you an apology.

Jonathan,

Not to sure what upset the mods but I have enjoyed your posts and upgraded (slightly) my anchoring system because of them. Like a lot round the UK, I pick settled weather and sheltered places to anchor but may get caught out one day such as others did in the Isles of Scilly this year. Hopefully my anchor system will cope ...............

Thats curious, what on earth have you said to offend the mods
Keith

Trouble is that the offending posts will have been removed at the time of the ban. Perhaps he said something that might have been regarded as offensive, but you have to give them credit for allowing him access here to complain about it.

Having spent ages reading anchor threads here recently I am sorry to read this Neeves......hope it becomes temporary. Snubbers , bridles and catenary are subjects you have helped me on, obviously so have others. As for anchor choice, that too, I bought a Scottish one ?. But that was my decision based on collective forum output.

@Neeves, judging by the responses so far, people seem to really like you here - I certainly do.

We don’t get along in every bar we visit, so if this place suits you better then why not just stick around here?

:)
Excellent idea I will start;
I think that Rocna anchors have been unfairly judged on anchor testing videos……

Possibly under provocation, as Neeves has a point of view which he will defend.

I am not questioning the Mods reasons for banning me from PBO. The Mods are in place to 'police' the Forum, their rules and interpretation cannot be questioned. I suspect this thread will not last long.

It centred on a thread in which commendation was made of Paul Rainbow. I did not criticise Paul's technical abilities but I did suggest that use of 'Rainbow' was commercially advantageous as it is the name of Paul's company. I was under the firm impression that constant use of a trade name was not within the remit of YBW. It appears I was wrong and I transgressed and with other transgressions this was sufficient to have me banned from PBO - and not said but understood by me - mind my manners (and this post is probably too close to the wind).

I have suggested , I don't recall the exact words, to the Mods that allowing Paul Rainbow also allows:

'Peter the Vulcan', 'Craig @ Rocna', or if Lewmar pay me enough 'Epsilon Neeves'. and 'Izi the Viking'. All that is needed in my case would be to post as I have done historically under my new name of 'Epsilon Neeves' - that constant repletion developing acceptance. My thesis is that Rocna is one of the best known leisure marine brands, for the wrong reasons, but constant repetition of a brand is part of a successful marketing campaign. I am not suggesting that Rocna is not 'good' but it is better known than many similar products. Peter and Craig are making some heroic voyages to obscure places in the southern part of the hemisphere - their knowledge on what works in arduous conditions would be invaluable - each post headlined as 'Peter the Vulcan', which might lift Vulcan from being an also ran. I don't think I suggested that Paul was deliberately spamming - but to me this is something the Mods should be watching for.

I like the idea that YBW was devoid of commercial focus and pressure and that overly constant use of a brand, by an individual or company was frowned on (though I did like some of the videos on yacht delivery). In the past when I was accused of sprucing for Anchor Right (with their Excel) or for Viking - I was offended (to me its not where I come from).

However it appears I am wrong and my strongly held views are not of some, or many. I accept I will probably pay the price - but I am here voluntarily.

I have just been informed my thread on Mixed Rodes has been move from Scuttlebutt to PBO as Scuttlelbutt is not a technical forum (which is news to me). I'm being squeezed out.

This thread was simply an apology to those that found my posts of interest to excuse my future absence - which may be quicker than I envisaged :)

I am sincerely humbled by the support.

Take care, stay safe.

I would answer but Scuttlebutt is not a technical forum and you really need to ask the question there - and I cannot then comment. But maybe if video is not a technical discriminator - maybe......
