It's similar to SailGP. All about the start, with few passing lanes.

Also currently looks like there are marked performance and/or handling differences between some teams, so it turns into a drag race. So can have matched performance, but one handling mistake and it's over.

I agree that currently it's more a case of 'watch the start and then fast-forward'.

Given there are those in Barcelona who believe the city has already got an excess of tourists, exactly what is the point of hosting this non-spectacle? I tuned in on Thursday full of expectation but now I just don't care. Charlie Barr must be birling in his grave!

I take back some of comments from Friday, the race in progress between GBR & Alinghi is much better and there has been an over take on the first leg.

Just watched Italy v Switzerland. Also spotted the 80 something foot catamaran in the spectator area. My oppo is the skipper and is there for the series with Swiss guests on every day.

I'm currently in Le Sable D'Olonne, where the best PROPER yacht race will be going from in November (and they've put me on the VG pontoon with all the toys).

Two pens in race 2. Time for a new skipper on Ineos. That's criminal at this level.

I could just about live with the penalties in that race but the OCS against orient express today was much more worrying because it wasn't just a technical time on distance error but it was just a completely stupid piece of sailing, they had won the penalty so could afford to actually be a few seconds late on the line they just needed to make sure that they were at maximum speed when they crossed the line, instead they come into the line on port and tack onto starboard with 5 seconds to go to lost loads of speed and went OCS. All they had to do was realise that orient express were late on the start with 25 seconds to go bleed a little speed at that point and cross the line on port, would have given them an instant 200m lead and the ability to loose cover for the rest of the race for an easy win.

My thoughts exactly. Time to get Ben off the boat and put Giles on.

I agree, if Ben wasn’t in charge he’d have been sacked a long time ago. What’s the point in spending all that money then throwing away races on stupid unforced errors.

I've only seen 2 races but it seemed to be that Ineos was doing pretty well. I did see the OCS which was careless.

This was only a preliminary regatta and many of the crews had teething problems - but Ineos seemed to get better as it went on and look to be a fast boat.

Yesterday was a little more entertaining simply because they sailed on the bottom of the wind window and it required effort to stay up on the foils. But without that it would have been another set of drag races.
Shame the didn't make the course half the width it is now, that would definitely spice things up, twice the manoeuvres would lead to many more errors.

Wow! Was just catching up on today's racing on YouTube, and saw was cancelled after lightning. But hadn't seen the strike. Thanks!

(Hard to seek video on mobile YouTube while being driven down M6 - just laid Arpeggio up in Ardfern)
