New fora show millions of lurkers and no-one posting.

Have a lot of people left? There are definitely fewer posts/new threads of a wet winter weekend than there used to be.

well, i'll talk to you!

I think we discussed this before. The number of posts/member fell with dateslip, and it's really fallen significantly now the s/ware dfisplays the views count. People feel that they are taking part already?

With over 50 000 threads and 458 000 posts, everything, positively everything which could possibly be said about boats has been said. People can now only repeat what has already been said - or else talk about Fray Bentos.

So I will repeat my first post of more than two years ago...

Why is a special channel of VHF not allocated to giving local weather forecasts on a permanent basis as is (was ?) done in the Med?

Re: wx

i'm noot at all sure that was your first post. AFAIK you first post was some whinge about having to pay the french radio licence instead of the uk. Nothing to do with weather forecasts!

Anywa the dedicated broadcasts in the med are unintelligible, so bit useless imho...

Just too darn busy sadly - suspect others may be too. I'd love to be doing more posting but the 4-letter word beginning with w prevails. Could it be that everyone's too busy w***ing to indulge in boaty stuff ? Or have they all taken a New Year's resolution to be polite and well-behaved and therefore have to avoid SB-ing ? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Kennedy was murdered by the KGB...

...the moon is made of green cheese...and so on.

Likewise the forums are much quieter since we a) introduced dateslip (compulsory at first but now off by default and an option and b) introduced this software. Except, errr...they are not.

Period 1-9 Jan 2002 137 new threads
Period 1-9 Jan 2003 280 new threads
Period 1-9 Jan 2004 318 new threads
Period 1-9 Jan 2005 440 new threads

Straight off the database. Okay, not broken down by forum but there were 20 new threads on Scuttlebutt since the time I last checked it 7pm last night and 10am this morning, so something is happening out there?

Re: dateslip ...

Dateslip is still there - turn it on in your user options (not called dateslip though, it's choice of threads by date started or last post)

It\'s still there...

...around Italian coasts at least.
Channel 68 gives constantly weather forecasts for the whole med, both in Italian and English.
I'm not sure if this is what tcm qualifies as "unintelligible" - and if yes, why.
But it's always been very useful, in my experience.
