L.eSomething interesting we noticed-the Cardinal Marker on the West breakwater is high and dry, 20 metres from the end!
Yeah, not uncommon with Spanish breakwater marks. Hardly ever right on the end!

I' was always wary of depths shown around the Costa Marinas. All pr9ne to silting up. Same with the ones on the Moroccan coast south of Ceuta.

Are club nautico marinas run independently, or is there one email to check on availability like our marina groups?
Usually the infrastructure is owned by the local government who then lease out a concession. The puerto deportivos are usually run on a more commercial basis and the club náuticos are a kind of club with paid membership and tend to have a more sporting bent.

The essential difference is that a CN will likely require membership which can be pricey in Spain, but you'll probably get it back in mooring fees.

They're run as separate businesses although some do appear to have shared management they don't let it improve efficiency or anything like that.

We left our boat in Alicante for 6 months last winter at the Real Club de Regattas de Alicante. It's more of a working sports club than a marina so the facilities are a little rudimental but the bar/restaurant is excellent, the staff very friendly and with great security. Price was reasonable too. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there - bear in mind that English isn't really spoken at the club.

The main marina in Alicante had absolutely no interest in accommodating us, I found them pretty rude to be honest.

Alicante is a great city with something for everybody and the airport is very close.

Santa Pola marina is quite nice with friendly staff but we found the town a little... odd.

Cartagena is also a brilliant marina and a lovely town.
