I was away for weekend. What was this all about? Which newbie got bashed up? Whose tag line was offencive (sic)? Could we have a brief 5 line summary of this mallarky please?

Reverse camera angle
Haydn gave Mack some good advice, then the thread degenerated into the usual 'home-improvements' with a lot of insider stuff. Mack, not being familiar with the banter, then assumed hlb's post was taking the piss and turned into Mack-the-knife. It was the usual new-user early hours c**p and I suspect there was a fair bit of MackEwans involved.
The forum charged into him like the 5th cavalry, or a bunch of antibiotics attacking an incoming germ.

Eustace and I have been trying to get spliced (a nautical term, I believe?) for the last week or so but no one will do it. Eustace has now run away with a handsome sailor. But I've now met Leslie ( a 6'5" scotsman, very naughty) and we wish to get married. You being a vicar have offered to service us. However both Leslie and I wish to wear wedding dresses, is that OK? We would like to get married on HMS Victory in deference to Nelson's last request to Hardie, do you think you could get over to Portsmouth?

I don't mind you both wearing wedding dresses as long as Leslie's isn't tartan, and yours isn't make from sailcloth.
It's no problem for me to get to portsmouth, but i think we have a problem with HMS Victory. They still have lots of sailors on board and i think there will be a strong possibility that either you or leslie (or both) may take a liking to them, and i'm not licensed for double weddings.
Also when it comes to kissing hardy - you're on your own with that one, i'm outta there straight after 'i do'

info for newbies would have to be there flashing right in their faces...fact of life that newbies don't search back, and rarely read faq's (I've been a moderator on more than a few forums in my time, so speak from hard learnt experience). Just look at how many newbies post items on 'for sale' that are well over the limit.
As regards Jimmie, I think it's about time we resurrected Nicho's thread...the one he wanted to die quietly /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
