Americanisms, don't you just hate them! My pet hates at the moment are '24/7', yuk! and 'Back in the day' TV programs from the Americas have a lot to answer for. Now our own programs for example, there you have genius at work. Take Eastenders, mockney has been elevated to new hights, along with Dellboy speak from the southeastern suburbs of this fair city. Nowhere is this more evident than the flash little here today gone tommorow trading oiks of the city proper. I don't know what it is. I just feel I want to punch them in the face as soon as one speaks to me in a condisending way or treats other people as if they were below them.
Yes I think that the affect that TV has had on the lives of the populace is for the worst. I remember Dick Barton on the wireless. A good clean living sort of chap that didn't have to stoop so low as to basterdise the queens english and yet still got the message across in proper and articulate way. Pah! Americanisms, you can keep them thankyou very much.
