I have time to decide .. so far I've said I'm not fussed and really want the hull sanded and repainted .... which led to the suggestion.

It looks better WITH it just now. It might look worse once its had a season of slime etc staining it. Presumably masking it off and painting it is additional cost. Personally it wouldn't be on my priority list and that's without any health things to deal with.

It looks better with. I opted to do it in vinyl - the idea being that it's easy to get right, and easy to replace when it gets grubby.

It's an time-consuming (or expensive if you pay someone else) and pointless indulgence (IMHO). I had one for quite a while and got fed up with the hassle and time necessary to repaint it each time I antifouled the boat. My line was white and it would get yellow and dirty over time. Now gone and I'm much happier.

It looks good when the boat is out of the water - once afloat, it's absence will rarely be noticed.

Better with IMO.

It is not a difficult job, i did ours when we bought the boat, four years on and it still looks good.

It does add to the sleak look ashore ... and the line will be above the water by about 1 - 1.5" ... but ... is it really worth it ?

I recently spent a long time cleaning along the waterline on the starboard side. That's the side I can't get at easily when the boat is on its home pontoon mooring.
The port side was easy because I had cleaned it using a brush a few times throughout the 2 years since it was last lifted . Actually not all that much work - maybe once a month or less.
So the trick appears to involve a regular clean along the waterline.
The colour makes no difference . The fouling probably still occurs regardless of the colour.

If it stains raise the anti fouling and put the white above that. Boat like that deserves it.

When I had mine coppercoated I got them to take it up over the line adding 4 inches now no slime

Yes. But to do a proper job the stripe should be wider/higher at the ends, particularly the stern on your hull shape, otherwise, when viewed from a higher position than in your photo, the ends will appear narrower.

I like it as it is. When you are on board you won't see it anyway !

I would add it as I think it makes the boat look nicer. One of the main purposes of a boot top line was to apply a hard antifouling so that the water line did not get fouled when using ablating antifoul below the water line. For that reason, I would use the opportunity to have a boot top line put in and then paint with a white, hard antifouling.
