Yanmar Spares

After having to buy a lot of spares for our 1GM10, most of which seem to be common requirements, I am surprised that nobody has started to sell pattern parts at a lower cost. I am sure there must be a huge business potential. I know you can get oil filters, impellors etc.

I just bought the two front oil pipes which had corroded, but I also needed the gasket for the gear cover (£36 + VAT). I am positive these could be made and sold at 50% of the price and still make a huge profit.

There are a few people who make up the oil pipes for the 1gm yanmars, i also noticed a company who now produce and entire water pump repair kit for a good price.

I would mention them here but some people often think it advertising.

I once had a 1GM10.....the oil pipes corroded because a seal in the water pump--above the pipes--had failed. There is a hole drilled especially in the pump housing which allows water to drip as a warning that the seal has gone. Perhaps you should check.

Please tell us about the alternative supplier, it could save us a fortune.

Funnily it was the water seal which leaked and dripped onto the pipes which then corroded and burst.

I hope I don't get shot for giving a recommendation, but the guys at TS Marine at Universal Marina are excellent if you need somebody to fix your engine. They are not Yanmar agents, but they know the engines inside out and are very reasonable.
