I think it looks great, 3 cabins all with en-suites. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers

I think the layout is superb, with three proper double cabins.
I am not too sure about some of the design, the forward ports look a bit out of place, almost like a mid 90's searay with a lot of hull between.

Probably not what the designers were thinking, but with the three cabins maybe one for the med charter market? Is there a crew cabin option as well?

Re: Ugly boat...

The only thing about the 3 cabin windows, i wondered if they should step down a level as it goes aft, so as they are not all in plumb line if you know what i mean.
Also i do notice they are a different shape to the windows on the other boats in the range.

I also think Gobbi was a big pioneer in the design of the mid range sports cruiser with there 315 SC which was the design evolution followed by the 425 SC

current models. The big problem with the Gobbis was the awful interior design and the very basic fitout.

true but that made a well built boat competitively priced

i think they should use large horizontal style portholes on this one and it will look much sleeker

Re: Ugly boat...

Good point and I can see intially on first look does look a little awkward but as so many designs nothing beats seeing it in the flesh, it does work, I remember the slating Bangle got with BMW designs at first but its hard not to imagine a 5 series now that doesn't look as it does, indeed those edgy and what intially seems as awkward design edges has filtered down into many others.

Still each to his own, my only comment would be that succesful manufacturers tend to be a bit out there and leading edge, get pasted for it, hammered and finally accepted, whether that will be the history with the 52 time will tell but in the flesh it really does work and you kinda walk around and use it and think 'now why didn't someone else think of that before'.

Thanks for the comment though and compliments on the rest of the range, much appreciated.

It looks VERY similar to the Sessa 52 but not quite as nice /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I know I've asked this before, but anyone recognise the port where the sessa is photographed (one of my favourites!)?

it is Portofino or the whereabouts of the Cinque Terre

nice place

Re: Ugly boat...

Good point re the 5 series and Bangle. I thought it ugly at first, now I think it is the work of a styling genius (and I bought an M5)

The Absolute52 isn't a Bangle-style departure/quantum leap from curent styling norms though. If anything it is a bit "me-too", and let down by irritating detials. The other Absolutes are in contrast quite distinct and a cut above most of the competition in the styling department.

All very much imho, this stuff is all in the eye of the beholder! :-)

Nope! You're on the right stretch of coast but it isn't Portofino or any of the cinque terres (a 50 foot boat wouldn't really fit into any of the cinques!)

they have been introduced on the Gobbi 365 SC in 1996 and copied by many builders
but first and foremost copyied by Sunseeker on the 58 Predator back in the day and later introduced in all Camargue and Predator series and as yet today still are part of the design of the Sunseeker boats

I accept that everyone has a different opinion.
The fact that a design concept has been copied doesn't always mean that it will work in a second incarnation.
Designers often just get the feel wrong. My point about Japanese and Korean cars exemplifies this. The Hyundai was always put forward as a cheap Ferrari lookalike, but although it had similar key notes the detail made it a bit of a jelly-mould. The point is that in 10 years time you don't look at them and say "that really was a classic"
The coke-bottle hip has had a poor history in cars. Especially in the Vauxhall range and is still to be seen around in cars now, usually looking a bit unhappy.
On the boats, and particularly on that Absolute, it seems to be a pure design feature without any purpose.

It's just my opinion of course.

Personally my favourite all time 'looker' in the motor boat stakes is the Brooklands Dolphin 16. That blue trakmark and the clean cut sheer always looked just perfect. Of course, for those that require extra space for those lounging around moments there was always the Dolphin 20. But not quite as perfect as the 16. Sadly all the pictures are pre-digital otherwise you would all be drooling.......

Ah, to dream, 'tis wonderfull.

i dont think the hips are a pointless design
they have been introduced...

[/ QUOTE ]Indeed they were copied a lot.
But I can't see any function for them, aside from (possibly) giving a sort of more "dynamic" look.
Therefore, I'm with Lakesailor in considering them pointless.
Time will tell, but I suspect they won't last long.

Re: Portovenere

Yup, tis Porto Venere! Beautiful place. Backdrop for the Riva Athena 110 website and the Evo Marine Deauville website

Re: Ugly boat...

No, Bangleised BMW's are not 'works of genius'. They are ugly. Period. It's like the ugly bird sitting in a bar. After a while looking at her and nothing else appearing in the meantime you convince yourself that she's beautiful in her own strange way
The only saving grace with current Beemers is that, by and large, they are still the best mainstream driving cars out there
