With my first season at an end the boat is out of the water and looking rather sorry for herself.
Decks need cleaning and the top sides need to be brought up to their previous best.
My fist trip last weekend to the Marine store at Port Solent was a bit of a worry, if I was to buy every product on display the winter budget would soon be gone. What tips do you have for me? I am told that Kitchen cleaner is OK for the top sides and good old hot water with soap is the best for the decks.
I guess my question is which of thses wonder products is worth buying and which ones are best left alone.

Thanks in advance

Del Buoy.

Dont know if its right or wrong, but to clean and polish the glassfibre hull on my boat i use AutoGlym cutting polish to remove scratches and "chalking" followed by AutoGlym silicon free polish. Bought from car accesory shops for around 20 quid the lot, saves a few bob anyway and much bigger bottles than the ones in the chandlers

To get rid of yellow and brown stains - especially visible at the water line - use Y10. Not cheap but it works v well.

Use oxalic and wallpaper paste mix for yellow stains and any staining on hull. What are the decks, if teak, I'll sedn you the recipe, if glass/noslip, your right a household stuff is fine, flash etc. Your winter budget is now still intact!

Last year used car shampoo from Homebase and to get most marks etc Marine Polish with add Teflon - used it for 10years and is the best marine product imho, the others simply don't work (tried quite few). This year at the SBS I bought Skippers Choice and found it better than car shampoo, cleans hull, seats and evens seems to remove oil stains(not tried that bit).

Teflon base cleaner = £10.00
Skippers Choice = £20.00 (Large container) - try the LBS in Jan.
----Both of these should last quite a few years.
