We used to use long lines and drift in and out a bit which I didn’t like so went for a line tied at low tide from bollard down to a strong point down at the bottom of the ladder. Then had a midline rope with a smooth shackle attached to it so it slid up and down to keep the boat nearish to the wall. Only had a problem once when I hadn’t spotted the line got very close to an obstruction and the shackle stuck and the tide kept rising.

You risk bending that stanchion with the line tied halfway up like that (or, to be honest, even at the bottom as not designed for that). I would use the winch to tie that off to as it is designed for lateral loads (if you carry on without the weights on your long lines).
I made the adjustment and now we wait for high tide ( lt right now).

Everything seems to work out quite well and it's less daunting that it appeared to be initially. I thought I make a mistake and rip a cleat off. 🙃IMG_20250325_125838.jpg

This worked quite well so far. I am not swinging out at all and just glide up and down. Last ht anyway.

Check out my picture. I did it very similarly, except I didn't put it on the boller and kept it just on the ladder. Works well for me. Nothing can snatch.
