Hi All,

I need to replace the trim pump on my Fairline Targa 30 which has Kad32P's and DPE drives. However, I'm struggling to confirm the right part number. It seems Volvo had many part numbers for the various trim pumps that all look like mine. Unfortunately the existing pump has no part numbers on it that I can see. I believe I need 3586765 or equivalent. Can anyone confirm?

All SX and DP trim pumps are the same now. From a dealer you have to buy the whole kit. If it's just the electric motor, easy to replace. Sadly, if the pump head is shot, replace the whole thing, otherwise you'll have a bilge full of ball bearings opening it up.

Edit to add:- The Trim Switch is also a frequent fail point (3855650). Give that a test.

Thanks. These have been a constant pain. After cleaning up and changing the relays & fitting new motors I now have them operating reliably. Unfortunately, it’s now clear that one of the pump heads can’t hold pressure so the drive either sinks down, or lifts in reverse. I’ve decided they are seriously spoiling my enjoyment of the boat and I’m putting new ones on. I’ll replace the trim ram seals this winter too.

I can see that all the pumps for sale are the same but I’m not convinced that the connections to the hydraulic pipes are the same across the models. Some pumps come with various adapters. I’ll probably have to buy one of those.

The fixing bolts for the replacement pump may be different thread to the original eqipment instead of metric or perhaps the other way around. But the pump came with adapters for the hydraulic pipes.

That problem sounds like rams seals

I had an outdrive that was fine at low speed but went all the way down under power
Since the boat has twin engines I swapped the pumps over and the fault followed the pump. Therefore proving the pump was at fault.

To be honest Paul may well be correct that it is the rams but I'm so fed up chasing problems with these drives that I am of a mind to change both pumps and the ram seals. That way I know where I am for next season. Now that all the electrics are sorted and the motors operate reliably in both directions I have discovered that I still have got different issues on either side. On one side it won't hold position in either forward or reverse. But if you lift it up to say 35 and leave it for a week it stays where you put it. The other side works perfectly when under way, yet if you put it up to 35 in the evening, by morning it will have dropped back down. Neither has any obvious fluid leak and neither reservoir shows any water in the fluid. So I could well have internal ram leaks and/or pump valves leaking. I will swap the existing pumps over to see what happens then but right now I am of a mind to buy one new pump and try it on either side.

At least this way I will be starting from the knowledge that at least one pump is good. Hence my question re which pump I need.

The boat is currently on the river so it's not a big deal for this season but next year we want to take her to sea and I want this sorted once and for all over winter.
