Hi - looking to buy a new Tohatsu 3.5 or similar - I live in Wiltshire with boat in Portsmouth or may be mail order will be best. Or any recommendations on 'cheap' outboards of similar hp. Mainly to be used for access to / from shore to mooring (a long long row!).

Can anyone recommend a chandlers (!!) or mail order source or may be dealer.

Cheers

Mike

Shop around on the net/mags for best prices and then use these to haggle with your local dealer. Reason for this is if it goes wrong you will benefit from the local support provided by the dealer at the time when you need it most, a 10% discount is a fair amount to settle for.

Try,
http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/
(search their site for for 'outboards' ) or
http://www.apolloduck.co.uk/ or
www.outboards-direct.co.uk/ - in a recent inquiry Charles Oakley phoned me back and was very helpful with advice and so on.
The first too sites have regional searche engines so you may find a seller/dealer near you.
I too am looking for a new outboard and noticed some dealers had 'boatshow offers' but I was too late for these. I would expect 10% - 12.5% off list price as a minimun discount for cash. Also, ask around for 'last years' models - some of these might be available at a greater discount.
