Lots of good titles there to choose from. Maybe "Cleaning Windows" wouldn't work though.

[/ QUOTE ]
"Smoke on the Water" may be tempting things.

Good grief man! Lay down the law, and name it whatever you want. Why are you letting wimmin even think they have a say in the matter.

Re: What\'s your boat\'s name

Considering I just blew the entire budget for the house refurb, this and next years holiday and I spend every waking hour honing and polishing my dream I think she has been fairly gentle with me so far.

Think I am going to have to go with 'Charlotte II' or my boating days are going to come to a quick and abrupt end.

I am an inedependant, free thinking man and my wife has given me the authority to say so and if anyone says other wise she says she'll knock your teeth out.

Given this further information, I've decided I'd like to keep my teeth, and agree totally with your wife's very sensible and wise choice of boatname!

Good thinking, I shall tentatively drop this one into the conversation.

By the way what is Largs like, long time since I was there but I believe it is fairly busy now. Chap next to us is taking his Azimut up that way this month.

Might well bring M Farter to IOM. I went there a few times well before it was modernised! Seems that we may have to live there for a few years! Besides it would be nice to find out just how much more capable MF is on the aproch to Strangford or up the mull of er whatsit!!

Tommy is named after Mr B's dad who, sadly, died just before we bought her. It suits her, and also pisses off all those old farts who say you can't give a boat a boy's name

Isn't that tempting fate a bit, 'still' as in, not moving!

Just how I read it!

Largs Yacht Haven.

Largs a great place, best on Clyde for sheltered waters and good place's to visit all on the doorstep. Very busy now despite expansion over the past 2 years, as a visitor though you should always get a space. Manageress Carolyn Elder very helpful with a good team behind her. How about trying Troon, a bit more spac with some pretty large pontoons, a very friendly marina just like its berth holders.

safe sailing

Re: What\'s your boat\'s name

We were on holiday in Menorca planning to buy our first boat, sat around having a meal someone asked what I would call it. I said I didn't know but seeing that I had a wife and three daughters it would be something like "Four girls" or "My Girls".

Started looking for boat on return from hols and ended up at Windermere. Had a look around and saw nothing until the salesman said there was a boat in the marina that he had just been instructed to sell that we could look at but it was a bit dirty. The boat was laid alongside so we boarded her over the port quarter into the cockpit. It was filthy but it would clean up and it fit our requirements. As we got off I walked around the pontoon to the stern and the name on the transom was unbelivably "My Girls". That sealed the deal.

Three months later we upgraded! and although the boat was not new (one year old) it didn't have a name - perhaps the previous owner took it with him. I took the name "My Girls" with us to the new boat.

When we decided to move the boat to Mallorca we decided to SSR register her and were suprised when the name "My Girls" was rejected - Can't register a boat name starting MY - so after thinking about it we decided to translate the name into spanish and she became "Mis Chicas".

However, I'm not particuarly superstious, and we did not do any renaming ritual......The issues we had last year I think I have well documented on here, suffice to say it was a disaster and our woes seemed to go on and on and on. We felt ourselves to be in the clutches of a useless, unprincipled boat management guy who we could not shake off, there was always another issue, another bill and his people always seemed to leave the boat in an appaling state. Result complete demoralisation.

Prior to our final visit last year SWMBO read about renaming ceremonies and decided we needed to do one. So complete with bottle of Champagne (well two actually) we followed the instructions to the letter ending in pouring a load a champers over the bow, shouting the name three times etc...... We felt better for doing it but next morning I knew I had to confront the boat guy over yet another ridiculous bill which he had not told me about and just left on the helm seat for me to find.

So next morning off I trot to his office. When I get there he's not in so just expain my issues to the girl in the office. As I'm doing so a man who had been listening introduced himself to me as the new owner of the business - the old guy has sold up and gone the previous day! I could not stop grinning on my way back to the boat to tell SWMBO how quickly the curse had been lifted.

Next time - whatever I buy - I'm keeping the name

Re: What\'s your boat\'s name

Mucky Farter a long way from IOM but not incapable of getting there. I'll hand you over to Debs, who thinks, sent you a PM, or maybe not. Anyway speek to her Buzzzzzzzzz. Testing, testing......Music......press button 3......

well thought I had sent you a PM, but you haven't replied and its not in my outbox as having been sent. Anyway if you have had this before, then sorry.

Great news re Port St Mary that will be a super marina I'm sure, so you are in Douglas has your boat been there very long, & how do you manage to get out round & out the tides there. Think the douglas marina is a huge, huge improvement for Douglas.

(had to delete most of this reply as thought hlb had set it up as a PM) so its probably its odd...

Actually, my boat is another "Tommy". No idea why......
It'll probably not be changed as it would just add to the list of jobs to be done!
