The dimensions and the cord make me think lee-cloth for a sea berth, but the cut-outs seem a bit odd. Be worth looking under your saloon berths to see if any press-studs though. Also look on deckhead for lashing points for the cords.

Could it be a lee-cloth to lash a small child in place with it's legs through the cut outs. It was a long time ago that I had anything to do with children but I'm sure they had press studs fitted somewhere!

A throw over stern dodger for the pushpit? The slots would fit around a horseshoe bouy. So you have solid dodger on one side & a horseshoe lifebouy with dodger fitted around it on the other?

Quite why anyone would want a double sided dodger defeats me tho'. Oh, & thank you for the brain exercise/ entertainment.

I think you're very close. How about a stern dodger, that fills the gap between the two pushpits. The corded edge goes at the top and ties from one pushpit to the other. The centre flap hangs down over the cut walk through transom and the two outer flaps are inserted through the gaps either side in the pushpit. You then clip the press studs to corresponding studs on the transom either side of the walk through and the centre set of studs fix to the back edge of the removable helmsmans seat.

I have it on the best authority that it is a wim wam of a goose's bridle. I know this because my father would have used this expression.
He also told me that the bull on top of the cow also wanted to look over the hedge.
I have no reason to doubt my father and I will fight anyone who does.

Right, contributors, here is a summary of a few of the things, including the ones which have been shown a red card for overdoing the ingenuity:

Binnacle Cover - thanks jhr

Companionway Cover - thanks Norman_E

Boom Tent - thanks Johnny_H

Test Piece by Canvas Cover Apprentice - thanks Twister_Ken - Yellow Card

Matelots Trouser Kit - thanks bobbobbin - Red Card

Keel Bandage - thanks LakeSailor - Red Card

Jake The Peg's BBQ Apron - thanks NautiBusby - Red Card and 3 match suspension

Left on board by accident - thanks badman - Red Card

Giant Nappy - thanks davidfox - Red Card

Bavaria Having a Laugh - thanks Timshel - Red Card

Freemason's ??? - thanks DanTribe - Red Card and banned from 6 lodge meetings and Ladies Night.

Lee Cloth for a child with Press-studs - thanks StanD - Red Card and letter from Huggies solicitor regarding patent violation.

Lederhosen - thanks graham - Karte Rot.

Gizinty - thanks Rowana - Red Card for suggesting a drainpipe.

Therbalgripthuley - thanks Stingo - Red Card and guest invitation to 'Call my Bluff'

Gizunder - thanks Silkie - Red Card (is this forumite potty?)

WimWam of a Goose's Bridle - thanks WoodyP - Red Card (and one for your father).

The above shows the importance of putting 'Reasonably sensible suggestions are most welcome' in the original posting. Goodness knows what suggestions I would have got otherwise.

Please note, it is the suggestions that have been given Red Cards, not the posters - they are all still in the game.

Alan
