I have asked around and found that by Red Card you are alluding to football.

Sorry. That is not acceptable here.

No, no, no, no, no...

These Red Cards give three months free membership to the Communist Party.

I live near Sunderland - what would I know about football?

A thought...

Do you know who made the other canvas-work? Is there a label somewhere or an invoice, perhaps?

If you do, ask them... I'm as intrigued as everyone else!

Some sort of lee cloth ? Do the poppers fit to the saloon cushions somewhere ?
C.

[/ QUOTE ]

Can't find any poppers anywhere on the boat that are as near together as these.

Unfortunately not. The other canvas-work seems to have been supplied by Bavaria from new. The fabric on this item is slightly different from the original stuff.

The manufacturer's chalk lines are still visible which suggests that the cut-outs are parts of the original design, rather than cut-out later.

The longer this thread runs the less confidence I have in ever finding out.

Don't be downheartened...

Could you post pics of it the other way up, and on its side? I think we might be looking at it from the wrong angle, and thereby missing a result...

Also, can the bit of string be threaded through the end of the 'legs?

...and could it be an attempt at a Bosun's Chair? The three strips with their press studs would go onto plank pieces under the posterior and at the sides...

Have you considered a "stern dodger" as my earlier post?

[ QUOTE ]
How about a stern dodger, that fills the gap between the two pushpits. The corded edge goes at the top and ties from one pushpit to the other. The centre flap hangs down over the cut walk through transom and the two outer flaps are inserted through the gaps either side in the pushpit. You then clip the press studs to corresponding studs on the transom either side of the walk through and the centre set of studs fix to the back edge of the removable helmsmans seat.

Course it probably has sod-all to do with your boat and the previous owner doesn't know where his doggy-raincoat has gone.

I'm surprised Twister Ken didn't immediately spot that it is an emergency all-weather kilt for well-endowed bag-pipers! Based on a tartan original you will already have attached the male studs to your sporran, dirk and bottle opener for easy fastening to your storm kilt. Doesn't every boat north of the border have one? Occasionally seen in orange.

Afraid not - it is seamed around all the edges.

A novel idea. But it would have to be for a Fat Ar*ed Bu**er.

Considered it sufficiently possible that I didn't reply until I had a look at the boat but I can now say, 'sorry, no coconut'.

Still, it was an impressive suggestion.
