I've used WD40 in the past to lubricate the press studs on my boat cover. I think it was responsible for the black streaks that kept appearing down the sides of my boat (someone told me WD40 contains graphite). Now I've got a new cover - no streaks yet, but the studs are getting a bit stiff. Any ideas what to spray them with to keep them in good condition?

WD40 does not appeal. I used vaseline on our port cover press studs and it has lasted 2 years - seems perfect for the job.

Pledge or other aerosol furniture polish works really well too. Mainly because it has silicone in, but the wax and other things mean it's a "clean" lubricant and won't leave streaks or stains.

Works brilliantly on hood zips, curtain tracks, drawer runners, anything like that.
