thanks for the replies everyone, JFM I will send nick an email and see what he has also I only have a phantom 40 so will be even less room than you possibly thought, first job next weekend is clear all my **** out of the lazerrete that I some how have managed to accumulate over a very small time period so I can see what room I actually have

does anyone know if the phantom 40's that do have generators in the lazerette have 2 water tanks still as I am struggling to visage where I will be able to fit one and wondered if they maybe remove one tank to make room for a genny

cheers

Fairline P40 standard fit for a aircon boat was a 7kW Onan in the lazerette.

I have the generator installation review, but unfortunately it does not have any pictures (done before my time) PM me and I can send you a copy if you want?

Hi Shaun - If you are going to install a generator in the lazarette it will need to be properly installed and fixed otherwise will possibly invalidate you warranty - Onan - Kohler or Fischer Panda is the way to go 4kw + Battery charger will use nearly 3kw etc etc

Alternativelly use a Honda portable on your bathing platform for the odd occasion you may need one.

Happy Sailing

its hard to work out the exact size of generator you need, its somethuing called the investor load of somethings like fridges?

i bought a 3kw inverter generator real cheap off ebay called evopower, it does the trick and wasnt all that expensive.

I can't be bothered to plough through the whole thread so at the risk of repetition I give a hearty +1 to this reply. My Hardy had a raw water cooled 4KVA FP and it was horrible. The design uses the main water manifold as the anode so basically your plumbing is designed to rot away. The anodes were £100 to replace a few years ago. The design is such that if you don't spot the anode has rotted then you run the risk of a major water leak which would then fill the sound proof "suitcase" and drown the genny. Add to that a water pump thoughtfully tucked away at the back and under the main body requiring a mirror and 5 hands to replace the impeller. The casing was full of dropped brass wing nuts off the pump cover - once dropped no way to recover. Also remember its yet another engine in the boat to service and make sure it runs enough hours to keep it alive. I think they may have gone over to fresh water cooled now but if you can get enough power for your needs I would go down the "more batteries and a big inverter" route

Before considering a Fischer Panda you might like to check through this thread:-

I'm not familiar with your set up but one solution for tight spaces etc is a Hydraulic Generator. They are run off a hydraulic pto or belt driven pump run from the main engine. you can then use the hoses to position the geny where you want and not having an engine prime mover the space required for the geny is reduced.

**I will declare here that these are available from Mermaid Marine and Yes I am a Mermaid Marine dealer. They may not suit your vessel or needs but give me a shout if you want some info. ***
