Interesting. How do you do that? (Haven't got my iPad with me so can't fathom it for myself)

I send them as an attachment to e mail account, tap on attachment and it gives you an option of opening in IBook.

I believe that you can drag and drop into ITunes on pc but haven't tried it.

Kindle 4 will be colour. Expected soon.

In any case, monochrome is a tradeoff worth making for the ability to read it in daylight. The Kindle is specifically designed as a reader, and as such it far outperforms any kind of general purpose "pad".

he asked what apps should he get for his ipad.

I guess he would have considered the kindle when buying it the ipad
I guess he chose not not to buy one because of it's limitations, it does not do the same job as an ipad
even if he didn't it's too late

Any way - colour kindle. That will kill it. Removes it's raison d'etre.

The kindle is the best thing if you only want a reader. The ipad is far more than that, and can be a half decent reader as an aside.

Why do people feel the need to knock rather than answer the question or just ignore the thread?

I've already got a Kindle, android smart phone, two notebooks, 3G dongle and Alfa high powered wifi adapter on board - I am no stranger to gadgets

My post was in response to
US Airline has just replaced 38 volumes of its aircraft for use by flight engineers by an I pad.
iPad is a feeble alternative to Kindle as a reader.

Dropbox on Linux maintains an Rsync local backup. Similar on iPad?

Yep, Dropbox keeps a local cache on my Iphone, re-syncs when it can but accesses local copies the rest of the time.

I don't have an Ipad but I have full UK charts available off-line on my Iphone, great wee programme and I thing it was about 12 of your earth pounds. Can't remember the name, but I have mentioned it in several other threads, can't check cuz I at work just now.
