Well into the new year and still only the one boat project with only a few snippets of an update 😒

No current starters with a 'Blank canvas', has anyone heard anything of #johnpeet and his fabulous creation?

He @JOHNPEET still occasionally posts in the mobo section, more replying to posts rather than abboathis boat unless I've missed something.

There's a noticeable "don't do it" bias on this forum - anyone new posting about looking at a project could easily be put off either doing the project, or posting about it here if they do take it on.

I'm not saying "don't do it" is wrong, we've all seen too many dreams end up in the mire, but supportive it is not.

I think that if you are posting queries on a forum like this then 99 times out of 100 "don't do it" is the best advice you can be given. And even in the 1 case cautionary advice can save a lot of trouble further down the line. 😊

Reading the thread on Thames Sailing Barges it is easy to get caught up with the romance of owning / restoring one...

I’m still here!😃 Mainly lurking with the occasional comment on the rare occasion that I think I may have something of value to add!

We’re presently at our winter berth in Victoria Dock - Caernarfon. No major changes, modifications or additions have been made to the boat since we launched eighteen months ago - just the expected routine maintenance tasks. Looking forward to the coming season and hopefully some good weather so we can continue to enjoy the boat.

I think people who are up to the eyeballs in major boat refurbishment projects probably find it hard to find the energy to post about it!

I don't sleep well, I find it better if I'm knackered, 12 hours day at work today including a bike ride each way in the frost this morning, stop on the way home to pick up Valentines chocolates, home, then tonight its finish assembly of the last windscreen mold, thats only an hour, all wood is cut, then a hour on the car restoration I'm doing in parallel, then bed.

It’s a Vetus product but I can’t find it on a UK site anywhere, so may be a special order or something .

Its here though:

Luxury Telescopic swim ladder with 4 steps. Stainless steel (AISI 316). With black synthetic grips.

I had an absolute bargain on this - bought it as an unused item on FB Marketplace for £80 inc delivery . Clearly, the owner didn’t know what he had!
Right thanks. I can get one for £397 inc: delivery. Think I'll look around a bit more!

On the third winter of our boat improvement project - engines are out and various bits on the go but with normal work and this I haven’t had the inclination to put fingers to a keyboard. Might get round to it in retrospect at some point.

My hands are covered in glue, paint, antifouling and other substances that I don't want on camera or phone. So no photos, therefore anything posted would be much later and boringly text only..

That would good.

Taking on an 80's boat and trying to bring it more up to date aesthetically and technology wise, I love seeing other projects. It has helped shape the way Tolerance has evolved over the years and provides ideas for the future😊

I'm afraid I'm taking a 1980 boat and making her more "out of date" aesthetically - I'm not finished yet and there's already more shiny brown wood than she had when new! I am the Vanquisher of Vinyl...

Even though my phone is pretty dated the photos (when my hands are clean enough to take them) are too big to post here without shrinking them first. That doesn't entirely help.

I'm refurbishing a Parker Lark racing dinghy but I guess that's insignificant here in the scheme of things...
Compared with some of the other projects, it has the distinct advantage that you're in with a chance of benefitting from it this year.

I don't know how many boating years Madame and I have left - if it's 10 we'll be doing really well, so I don't want to be working over the summer, I want to be out on the water.
