Its a great looking boat for norther waters
Yes it is, but if you look at its motor fishing boat hull sections and minimal keel you will see that it happily rolls along and the sails will not be all that effective for making ground to windward. But the wheelhouse is a nice snug place to enjoy the scenery and watch the rain squalls. A nice sturdy motorboat with sails.
I did consider one, but decided that having the option of sailing to windward if necessary could be important.

I friend of ours has a 37, having previously had a 30. It's not my idea of fun, and there is less room inside than in modern boats, but it does what it is supposed to and suits his un-nautical wife. I think that there are other boats than roll more, and, properly handled, should give a comfortable ride most of the time, helped by the weight.

Until you get into the Fisher 34, the wheelhouse is a little cramped. In the 34 and up, you will find that this is where you live, eat and have your morning tea. 34 and up, they sail a lot better than they are given credit. Their diesel engine drives them to weather remarkably well and much in the same manner as employed by most other "real cruising sail boats".
We sail a CW 32, which is in may ways similar to a Fisher and we absolutely love the wheelhouse. As far as we are concerned, our large and comfortable salon, down below is merely there to stow decorative throw pillows and a place for guests to sleep. Driving them hard under sail and at speed, actually reduces much of the rolliness.

But it sails like a barn door to windward
Yes, as somebody who is currently sitting out a rainy and breezy day at anchor North of 56N …………. I like to look at Fishers, but would need to be massively older to hanker after actually owning one.
Just spent 4 days sailing in sunshine and winds generally below 10 knots, where our boat was able to make fun progress under sail when most other boats motored all day. Turned a headland yesterday late afternoon and wind and tide swung in the nose - but flat water and warm sunshine, so enjoyed tacking upwind making 4knots VMG to windward even against the tide in 10 knots true breeze, ducking to edges to minimise adverse tide. Joy.
The Fisher would have been constant drone of motoring for the 4 days.
