Do you just take your phone sailing as is or do you use some form of waterproof container ?

I often use no more than a couple of wraps of cling film - seems to work fine. Proper case for iPad though.

Phone turned on to silent and put in bottom of waterproof grab bag when sailing. Only comes out when in marina or at anchor.

Use Aquapac case for phone - had for years and in spite of preceding touch screens works fine with current touch screen phone.
Must have saved a fortune in damaged phones through the years - been used for emergency navigation on charter boat in sudden hail storm going through rocky channel, as just one example. Also primary emergency device if become detached from boat suddenly as always carried. More than one person alive today through having waterproof phone on them in accident

take the phone. Dont do anything to protect it. Half hoping it will get wet but being a bad buying decision and a poor phone ( nexus 4), it has developed a charmed existence. :ambivalence:

Got the choice of work phone so picked a Sony Xperia which is nominally splash proof. It's had about 35 days on board this year, though by no means all on deck. No hassles I am aware of. Mobiles have an uncanny knack of confusing the blazes out of Autohelms - so I keep them well apart. (and warn crew as well!)

My older phone got dripped upon by a leaky window...It did not like that at all!! It did survive, but convinced me electronics and the sea are not a good combination.

I'm getting one of these soon.Waterproof, shockproof, basic 3G and most important of all,not a smartphone.

Fonerange range - dual sim cards too - helps in France. Waterpfroof, drop resistant - I just found the limit. on the CPC site at about £85

Waterproof, not the smartest android phone, short on memory, if you want loads of apps, but more than adequate.

Great phone. Does all I need plus the noise cancelling feature enables you to make calls with the engine running. Plus the battery life is far superior to the so-called smart phone.

I have the smart phone version and works okay for a smartphone. Only one where the touchscreen works when wet. I've trodden on mine and dropped it only to see it bounce 4ft back up. Battery life is 2 days comfortably or 1 full day if using GPS... Far better than most that struggle for a full day with light use.

Why is that an advantage? I've got half a dozen old phones, which were just phones. My current phone rarely gets used as a phone, it's more like a phone-sized computer...

...why would I go back to the old type?

I use an Otterbox...

Is the Otterbox waterproof? I'm sure it's a quality product, shock-proof, etc - but the description for the Samsung Note 3 version doesn't mention water-resistance.

I bought a £7 silicone & plastic case, seems waterproof and the touch-screen works...but the screen isn't clearly visible through the silicone, and the excellent camera - which is a principal reason for taking it out in the boat - takes very misty photos from inside the case...so I always take it out for better pictures...so it's wholly undefended.
