Anyway, it is not the plate that is evidence it is the declaration from the builder that the boat complies which is part of the handbook that comes with the boat.
Even easier then - just photocopy the handbook!

I know what you mean - I've just emailed a broker who's put up an ad without even a single picture and who has stated the manufacturer and length but not the model of the yacht. These are supposed to be professional salesmen too !I couldn't get satisfactory answers to the questions that I asked the broker, so decided not to waste my time and money going over there.
You are determined to find a way of minimising a problem. However the declaration specifically refers to an individual boat by HIN number, so you would be guilty of forgery if you changed that.
That is not true once you understand what it is about. There is no requirement for an individual owner to demonstrate his boat complies - most don't almost immediately they are put into use because owners modify them - and there is no check. It only becomes important when somebody imports a boat independently. It is then important to ensure the boat complies when it is first put into service. Lack of this can make it difficult to sell an independently imported boat at a later date.So what are you supposed to do if you lose the handbook?
Anyway, this isn't a problem because nobody cares about it. Well, you care about it, and I respect your views, but nobody in authority cares about it.
I'm puzzled by this.Shipping would be paid in the US,so how can VAT be applicable?
