I looked in last night and it opened on a porn site...!!!! I thought that said something about Moody owners.....yes be very carefull as it tried to download a virus checker to me to!!!
The "moodyowners.org.uk" address is registered to Charles Bond-Smith, who is/was a Moody owner ("Rafiki") and one of your members. Might be worth just letting him know, if you still have his contact details.
Well, am I the only one who thinks that answer really quite rude?
Antartic Pilot pointed out a problem you have, and you acused him of spreading false information.
Your grounds for this statements are that the correct URL is OK and virus clean, so all is OK..... but you are ignoring the fact that what appears to be a perfectly valid URL, and indeed one that many would trust in preference to a .net domain is malicious, and therefore many potential visitors are at risk...
If it had been my site, I would have thanked him for letting me know, not accused him of scaremongering.... but hey... what do I know?
FWIW, on my machine Google gives the infected site as the first result, and had I not been informed otherwise, it would have been the first option I would have followed....

The org.uk is the one that comes up first in a google search. However when you click on it, it transfers you to the http://www.moodyowners.net/ site.

Not on my computer it don't Brendan. It's a malware site that you can't get away from.
Morgana....I concur with you on that...AP was trying to warn others of a potential problem and got slagged for it....I to was directed to it from the first search result on Google!!!
Thank you all for your observations, some of which have actually been helpful
My investigations are these - if you actually type the addresses into your menu bar instead of going through Google et al www.moodyowners.net is fine - it is the main MOA site and is not infected www.moodyowners.org.uk is fine and is redirected to www.moodyowners.net (as a way of explanation, this was the original MOA site which was phased out when we went to the current design) www.moodyowners.org is not used and nothing to do with us www.moodyboats.com is a site hosted by Hanse Yachts and nothing to do with us - it also works fine.
As to the search engines - well it seems that if you click on .org.uk seems to have some kind of attack via Yahoo - I did not get that from Google, but no doubt it can only be a matter of time.
I will attempt to report this abuse to the appropriate search engines of course.
So the original report is still wrong, the sites are not infected, what has happened is that the search engines have been hijacked - a very different problem. Still serious though

[/ QUOTE ]Neil, I did get the dodgy site up first on Google, via Firefox.
I agree it seems to be a search engine problem but nonetheless pleased that it has been highlighted, as potential new members could get screwed (almost literally!) without even getting to our site.
Unfortunately all this chatter about the doodgy site will only help to persuade Google's engine that it is very popular and hence keep the site at the top of the list.
The lowly ranking of the new official site is because the site's owner did not think through the implication of the URL rebranding.
Google uses three separate databases which can give different results, particularly during a major update.
I can confirm that earlier this evening typing Moody Owners into Google as a search term brought up the infected .org site first, therefore to say it is nothing to do with you is a bit of a copout. You may not own the domain but your members were at risk therefore it became your problem. However, the site now appears to have been taken down, so the problem has vanished.
No-one is immune to their web server being compromised, so I wouldn't be too smugly outraged at the suggestion that one of your sites could be infected - it happens sometimes to the most meticulously maintained websites, and is not always obvious.
Google is still showing .org.uk as number one for a search on moody owners.
A while after my last post, it did redirect to a asian wife finder site which attempted to download some software, but my computer was locked down in preperation, and the attempt failed, but now is redirecting correctly again (just checked in last couple of minutes) so all a bit strange.
To be fair, the .org.uk site is outside his control, as it's purely a site which redirects to the official site, or at least appears to be.
I'm very aware of how and why it happens. In this case, it's not following a normal pattern, so unless we hear from the owner of the site in question, we won't know exactly what has happened. It's not a search engine problem, but some sort of redirect on the .org.uk page which is not seeming to be consistent.
Brendan - I replied to you out of convenience (well I had to reply to somebody). The link was not specifically intended for you but it seemed to me that some of the contributors to and readers of this thread might find the BBC article illuminating. Sorry if you felt I was trying to teach my granny etc. etc.
