Friends are on board in Spain and report that the Waeco compressor ( CF 35?) chest fridge has failed ( I will have to investigate to understand this better when I go out week). I will try to get a manual to help trouble shoot and I have read recent threads on similar Waeco products.
Hopefully I can fix it but if not the requirement to replace looms! They seem very expensive and my budget will be stretched. I see that Waeco make a 'dual' system Chest fridge which works on mains ( compressor) or battery ( thermoelectric) and as we spend a lot of time with shore power this seemed attractive. Got me thinking that mains only could be a solution as we could run it via an inverter on our odd 2 day cruises.
The unit sits in a space in the cockpit which is out of the way but is only 350mm wide and this limits our search somewhat.
There is a cool box in the galley which I could convert but there are the usual problems in dissipating the heat and I think the box itself may be too deep and we would loose stuff at the bottom especially with the small lid.
Any suggestions for a replacement will be appreciated as will tips on checking the 'broken' one.
