Volvo kad43p

I have found useful cross references for filters for my kad 32 and made substantial savings, The most starting of which is air filters around £5 each compared to around £25 each for a Volvo Penta labelled item. With twin engines a very worthwhile saving. Also I get fuel and oil filters a round half the VP prices.
However I agree belts are one thing I would always but the VP items as they have proven to be long lived and trouble free so worth the expense .

The way I look at it is a saving of 40 quid for air filters of uncertain (at this moment) quality and provenance would be less than an hours worth of fuel. Oil and fuel filters I would not even consider scrimping on, not even, not slightly, not ever. We are imo then playing with fire.

Each to his own decision. It’s nice of you to support the VP parts department. They do have their uses occasionally.
I started the idea of selectively using aftermarket filters after my engines were serviced by a marine engineer (who is highly regarded) using such parts.
Carefully researched alternatives from reputable manufacturers are available, not to mention oils all of the correct specification. For filters - manufacturers such as Baldwin. Mann and, for the crankcase breather filters , WIX, come to mind.
Belts however - I have stuck with the VP items .

parts such as turbo I will buy outside of Volvo and save on expensive green paint. Same for exhaust elbows, raw water pumps, and a dozen other add ons. But for engine core it's strictly Volvo. I know they are expensive but my take on it is the boat is only a viable proposition for the life term of the engine(s), There after your best option is a chainsaw, so the longer the engine lives the better and scrimping may not shorten it but it almost certainly wont lengthen it.
