Wasn't sure where to post this, but as it's a motor boat...............………….
I'm busy pottering away on my recently aquired Sealine 218, bringing it up to spec and doing lots of jobs that might have been left on the long finger in my hurry to get her wet. I was lucky in that I got her home about a week before everything went pear shaped and we were all committed to "lockdown". So, as part of my refurb, I thought I'd give the engine a lick of paint. It's a Volvo diesel, ad31, with tons of access, unlike the engine bay on my Wellcraft Sportsman. There isn't really any part of the engine that I don't have access to, it's such a pleasure.
So, regarding the paint, I've read on various forums about different recommendations for "Volvo Green" which, like most things boat related, can carry a significant price tag. Not being a total purist in this particular regard, I picked up a tin of Dark green Triflow Total Metal Care, specifically for painting over rust, onto railings and gates etc. It was the only green available so I went with it.
Today, I scrubbed down the engine, wire brushed wherever needed it, degreased where it mattered and went at it.
Very happy with the colour and the finish, especially as it finished with a hammered effect, which I particularly like, as it's very forgiving.
The colour match is very good, much lighter than the colour advice on the tin would suggest. So for any volvo owners thinking about a repaint, you could do much worse. €16.00 for a 500ml tin, of which I used about 1/3 and a 99cent brush. I had a short haired brush left over from some fibreglass work on the Wellcraft, and it's ideal for working into all the nooks and crannies.
Anyway, I'll let you be the judges.Engine before.jpgEngine after 2.jpgEngine after 1.jpg

Maybe they did change colour on later models, but mine is circa 1989, so I doubt if it qualifies as a later model. At least now I'll be able to see the leaks etc. much more easily!!

The green on my Volvo TAMD60Ps (last boat) was identical to Buick Green. I still have about 1/2 a tin in my workshop free to any one who wants it as it doesn't match the hammered lightish blue of my lovely Cummins 6BT5.9Ms

For Gawds Sake. :)
Those weeny spray cans workout more expensive than chanel No 9. :)
Brushing enamel an exact match "as near as whatever" only £14.00. plus P&P.
....and with brush you can get into all those little nooks and crannies without coating the rest of the engine compartment (and you) with green overspray which then means you no longer have to go over the green overspray in the bilges with white paint, which usually means you get more white paint drips on the green bits ................

I bought a can of proper VP paint and it was about three times the price. Have you tried the parts4engines paint? How good is the match?

it as close as you can get.
Even if you are just touching up very difficult to spot difference, the brushing enamel may have more of matt finish than the gloss of the original paint.
But it matches old heat faded paint pretty well.
