Thank you for answers,especialy about keel bolts.Regards the sailing i had no any problems or doubts about stability or performance my verl ,i manage to sail 8 kn. in force 4/5 and i think that is very good results.The only concern what i have ,was when i bought my boat one year ago i met old sailor man in yard who told me about bad reputation of this boats.After last season i think he was wrong or may he want to scare me.

"old sailor man in the boatyard" - OK rule no. 1 never listen to the old sailorman in the yard, he´s probably never been further than lands-end but knows all about sailing around the world ?
My advice would be just go sailing and you´ll find out for yourself.
8 knts is possible on a power reach or surfing downwind. Used to race another Verl 27 years ago (90´s) on the Clyde called Sirene, and this boat was always up in the top 3 from Largs SC.
Like any boat though weight is the enemy - even more so on the Verl. Keep her as light as you can and she´ll go like hell !

Wow it was downwind with north wind behind us,and some big waves too and it was not realy pleasure to sail.

I recently bought a Verl 27 as my first proper yacht rather than day-boats. We launched it this weekend and I am very happy with the way it sails, easy 5.5 to 6 knots under sail or engine, I didn't get time to check the speed when the wind really picked up but the boat handles really well, balanced and quite stiff.
I think it is going to be a good one once I sort a few bits out.

I have a friend with a Verl who reckons he wants to race me - I seem to keep avoiding him, maybe I just don't want to know how good his boat is...

9.1 knots? that's incredible!
Can't wait to get a decent wind and a working log, currently I only have speed readout courtesy of the GPS on my phone!
Surfing back up the Clyde on a wave in a good southerly should get the boat moving well
My time will come! etc.

Does anyone have any idea how many Verl 27's were built?
Also, are there many still around? out of all the people on the forum there only seem to be a few knocking about, there must have been more, surely!

I don´t know exactly how many were built but I would guess around 200. I know that Nick Hatteridge (the builder) was delivering a lot out across the North Sea to Germany and Holland etc.
We used to keep our Verl 27 on the Clyde/ West Coast during the 80´s and partly in the 90´s first in Troon marina and then later in Tarbert. I remember there were 2 Verl 27´s in Troon (one of them in the Sailing Club in Troon) the other in the marina. Another Verl 27 used to be in Largs marina owned by George Hutchison called "Sirene". I raced on this one a few times and last time I saw this boat it was in Rothesay Harbour just after they installed the pontoons in 1999 (i think). There was another Verl 27 in Tarbert called "Fyne Girl" which had a Trapper mast on it to gain a bit within it´s handicap !
All in I would say there were about 7 Verl 27´s on the Clyde during the 90´s that I actually saw. Here on Mallorca right now there is another Verl 27 ! It´s moored in Porto Colom and owned by a German guy.

Interesting, so most went abroad.
The previous owner of mine only ever saw one other. Unfortunately he saw it twice, the second time after it broke loose and drifted into him in the middle of the night! Not the best way to meet!

Now she is white with grey antislips on deck (we repaint completly hull and deck last year) you can see on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMPiKVM7psY or on ebay unfortunatly i`m trying to sell her because dont have time to sail

Excellent ! Glad to see Sirene is still going well. You often wonder where some boats end up after being sold on etc...in this case from the Clyde to the Medway. She was always quick, the previous owner never loaded her down with anything.
Pity you have to sell her. I would much rather give up work and go sailing than give up sailing and go to work !

I think it's the Verl 27 but check; a place in Northern England is advertising them as available new from mouldings.
I've been there ( for other reasons ); I suggest anyone fancying any of the boats 'offered' should go there too before thinking of opening a cheque-book...
