Am about to fit a new toilet. The toilet was missing when I bought the boat. I understand that on the Jabesco I need to fit a vented loop on the discharge pipe and also on small pipe which goes from the pump to the bowl and has also to be looped up to the under deck.
Are these vented loops essential? The original toilet had no such vent on the discharge pipe but of course it may have been a different toilet type.
I ask this mainly because the vented loop ( I have bought one) reduces the pipe bore by a considerable amount ( from around 38 to 28mm) which would seem to make it blockage prone.
( on that subject I note that the old discharge pipe has a 'lining' of hard 'crud' almost 1/4" of an inch thick which must also have made the pipe liable to blockage)
The 38mm vented loop I bought seems rather slack fit inside the original pipe which may be due the end having been stretched over a fitting. I dont propose to use that ( cruddy) pipe but worry that there may another sanitation pipe with a bigger bore than the 38 mm one. Can anyone comment on this?
Also strange that a whole toilet can be made and sold for £100 yet the 2 simole fittings ( the loops) cost almost £40.
Thanks for the usual good advice.

You only need vented loops on Jabsco toilets if the toilet itself is fitted below the heeled waterline. In many boats, it won't be. Refer to the installation instructions (always good advice!).

The anti siphon to a toilet fitted below the waterline is one thing but the boats heel when sailing is another.

I fitted a new Jabsco toilet after some flooding with the old one and for peace of mind and belt and braces fitted a Anti Siphon system as shown below.

Never had a problem since even with the 'twist and lock' of the Jabscow toilet I still shut the sea cocks also when under sail.

No problems with hose connections just make sure you get them the right way round as shown in the toilet instructions, you can also get a 38mm vented loop so no pipe reduction sizes.

Thanks guys! My understanding of the requirement followed my reading of the instructions as recommended by PVB !
My question about the restriction of the bore diameter remains! If a pipe connector is 'shoved into' a pipe then there must be a restriction in the bore some where.
Thanks for the photo, always useful!

What a splendid throne room! Hope you charge a fee to use it.

Yes but the same applies to the other connections. At the toilet and at the seacock.
Another way of looking at is that the hose is simply larger than the fittings it is going on to.

The jabsco 38mm vented loop is a reasonably snug fit inside my 38mm discharge pipe (ie you have to push it on/pull it off). They do a 25mm one (normally for macerated discharge I believe) so (apologies for stating the obvious) do make sure you don't have that one.

Thanks guys, yes I should have thought about the existing sea cock restriction.
The hose to loop connection isn't really loose it just went in a bit to easilly for my liking ( I normally expect to have to fight to get pipes to fittings!!) but it was an existing pipe which had probably been prestretched>
Thanks again
