Vendee Globe and Alex Thomson / Hugo Boss

Remember the way the leader board is distance to the finish so when the boats head west it makes the boats on the Eastern side of the pack look further ahead. In the past 4 hours Alex did 4 more miles than Le Cam so the realist is that he is pulling away. I would say that the true position at the moment is Alex, Le Cam followed by Dalit.

Hats off to Sam Davies who is pulling way from Corum. I think she has a good chance of a podium position..

as in tracker distance to finish
Le Cam .. 22901
AT .. 22905
some may consider AT to be in a favourable position but Le Cam is nearer home (y)

If Le Cam or aother non foiler wins or gets a podium place it would really be a major upset, when you consider the fortunes that have been spent developing the latest IMOCA foiling boats!

Le Cam is such a class act, and it was nice to hear of Alex Thomson speaking of him with such admiration this morning. It is astonishing how well he is doing, at 61 years old, with his low budget entry in a 13 year old boat.

The conditions so far have not been such that the foiling boats have been at their best advantage.

Bar widespread breakages, it's quite unlikely that someone in a non foiling boat will be on the podium.

where are you listening to that ?

Alex Thomson, GBR (HUGO BOSS) at 0400hrs, “ It was not very pleasant for sure, I would agree with the forecast that was given, so very windy and big seas, very gusty, not a very pleasant place to be. The seas? I was not looking at how big they were but on the way out (of the system) they were six, six and a half metres we are able to measure the height of the waves on board. I saw gusts to 60kts and sustained winds of 50kts for many minutes. You go there to be efficient to get through the low pressure, but as soon as you get near these kind of conditions, you just need to survive and not have any problems.
Jean Le Cam, Jean Le Cam is coming for me!
(Inside cockpit) It was much easier, efficient. But my god, Jean Le Cam, he is unbelievable. Unbelievable. To be where he is with that boat, at his age, it is unbelievable, brilliant.
Today?
There will be a gybe at some time to start heading south, probably some dinner and start catching up on some sleep, I have been looking forwards to this.
Right now I have 15-20kts from NNW, the seas are two metres and it is a nice night with some stars”

7 hours and still no gybe , but i quess he will do eventually , following Le Cam again , on a more southerly course .. good suff . (y)

AT has gybed and heading South with better VMG currently than Le Cam. Be interested to see if AT has to gybe again to get further West to avoid the high pressure.

2 of the top 3 boats are none foilers and the next foiling boat, PRB, is 50nm behind AT.

i dont see why he would do that , with his new S course he is headed for the same position as Le Cam has been heading for , any further west is risking / heading for the no wind area in 24 / 36 hours , ( as have the other foilers , Apiva , PRB and Linked out ).. prob best hat he just keeps an eye on Le Cam and follows him :)(y)

If you haven't already, it's well worth watching Conrad Humphreys and Mike Goldings discuss the Atlantic weather patterns on the link Matt1 flagged up.

A good night for Alex, now back in front with a few days of solid trade wind reaching in prospect, Hugo Boss should manage to show what it can do and stretch the lead.

Pleased to see that Pip Hare managed to hang in with the second group. Miranda Merron, at the head of the last half dozen in the tail, was neck and neck with Pip a couple of days ago. Now she is 300 miles behind Pip.

yes,, dont understand why Cam hung a left yesterday after showing AT the prefered course  , he could have been with him now ,, cest la vie, maybe he has a plan for later today / tomo . yes nice to see Pip hanging in there , she has the oldest boat in the fleet (y) , the other english wifey is not doing too bad either.

so is Linkedout and PRB,, but Cam s the man , looks like he might just have a knt or two more wind than AT over nxt few hours,, interesting
