I'm unable to load the tracker just now due to rubbish internet... any suggestions for a good way to follow the race with low bandwidth?

Frustrating! Too many graphics on the official site (to the detriment of the information, which it seeks to convey, I'd say). Here are screenshots of the 10.00 UTC rankings, to keep you going, for now. (They download as a simple Excel file, nice and small. BUT you have to load the rankings page to get it..... Catch 22.)

And an overview, showing present (forecast) wind:

We're in a 'critical phase' of the race now, according to Will Harris (on Andi Robertson's 'Live,' today). Who, along with Dee Caffari, sets out why. With some (excellent, I thought) routing analysis. Dee, making good use of the tracker screen (including a second session, near to the end of the clip). Will, with insights from his Malizia Ocean Race experience. Vid should start half way in (15 min 39), as they get into full flow:

EDIT: If you have time to watch the whole show: Early on, Will is good on the (relative strengths) of the designs at the front of the fleet.

I saw this on the 3:00 report where she was head to wind not moving so I think it might have been a sail change but no official announcement. One of the boats in front of her did the same thing.

see her update on instagram/ facebook etc.

Basically the front that they're skirting moved north and caught her. Couple of hours of very little wind going round in circles before she wriggled out from under the cloud. Tired but no lasting impact other than lost miles.

It was Ben Dutreux who did the same. They both gybed south then corrected back to the north. Looks like they were both following the same routing software as is shown on Sam D,s tracking page which suggests they should all be stepping south . It’s obviously wrong

The weather on Sam D's initiative coeur tracker seems to more closely match the actual wind that the boats report.

According to the official tracker forecast, Dalin is going (SE) directly upwind at 25 knots!
The Initiative Coeur forecast has NNE winds.

I think the official site uses Windy. I wonder what model Sam D is using.

For clarity, Windy isn't a model, it's a reporting tool. You can toggle which forecasting model Windy uses.

That seems a contradiction in terms. How can a forecast be anything other than a model even if different source data can be selected.
Windy is a display tool for different forecast models. Windy itself doesn't generate any forecasts, it displays the forecasts in the same format allowing you to see what each one is suggesting quickly and in a consistent format to allow you to understand where they agree or disagree.

Many thanks for that, it makes sense to me now:). Apologies if I seem critical, it was not intended.

Yes. The strange thing is that the official site usually shows ECWMF, which is the default Windy model.

It was showing something different the other night that also differed from what GFS and the other usual suspects were showing.

Could be just my sleep deprived brain misreading it - unless they had the date set wrong on their server! 😂😂😂

I agree the official site is pants. Just now it got worse there's are persistent overlay to watch a video, which on my android device half fills every screen. Any recommendations for other coverage?
The Initiative -coeur website tracker is good.

Initiatives-Cœur défie les océans pour sauver des enfants

But. You can turn 'skipper videos' off in the settings on the official website tracker. Maybe that setting has switched itself on. ?
