There is about 18litres of Oil there!

I had to take both air filters off to get in the engine bay. When I first saw the leak running down one of the mountings (above the original suspect, the oil cooler) I could only think of one thing and that was a cracked block!

HOWEVER, it turned out (after frantically ripping bits of the engine to be this wee high pressure oil pipe from the block to the Injector pump, as you can see it is cracked on the weld and oil was gushing out of there. How much is this one part going to cost me?

I must remember to take the oil cooler repair kit (loads of gaskets) back that I had bought before getting to the boat.
The part will be ordered tomorrow and I should be motoring next week, not too bad eh?

Mr Welder peep said he wouldn't like to weld it cos' it is a High Pressure pipe. There is also a bit of wear further back on the pipe so it will be a new one (haven't ordered it yet)
Anybody know of a good Volvo Truck spares place?

Since when has lube oil been high pressure? thought the lub oil system ran at max 75psi? or is the pipe for something else?

Your local hydraulics company can surely make you one up, or remove the old ends and make one yourself from some cunifer bundy and either silver solder or braze the ends on (or fit new ends if you can find some)

I've repaired / made many lube oil lines over the years without any problems. Used to repair the hydrolastic lines on minis etc and they ARE high pressure - especially when one hits a bump and the suspension pots are pumping the fluids back and forth.

um 75 psi (5 bar) is fairly high, and most show 3-4 bar, enough to lash it around the engine room, tho not high enough to cut holes in the hull i suppose...

Find a local model engineer and chat nicely. 75psi is a fair working pressure for a locomotive boiler and steamlines to the cylinders. Might be able to do something. Failing that, silver soldering isn't that hard and if it goes again (and you notice!) it hasn't set you back much.

PM if you want a discourse on silver soldering which may not be of much interest to others.
