My YL and I treated ourselved to a shiny new laptop for Christmas, and we are quite tempted to have a play with some digital navigation packages (despite my only ever using GPS as a belt-and-braces to the charts). Can anyone recommend a good system to have a hunt for and play with at ExCeL next week? Do we think it's likely we'll be able to get the cables there, too, or is it a "write to Garmin for the wiring diagram" job?

Cheers,

Crystal II in pictures...

I'm intrigued, but can't get into your website. What's the secret?

Whoops, I missed out a vital part of the URL - have now fixed, for a look at Crystal click here.

My actual website is all over the place at the moment, I'm in the middle of re-hashing it to match my New Year "Sort Out Of Life".

Cheers,

OK .....

a) Join GPS Navigator group - We have tried out virtually all s/ware available and have over 720 members worldwide available to answer questions .... including authors / sellers of charting / GPS software etc.
b) Ask us the most simple question you like - we all start and we all learn ... even what seems the daftest question can be new to many ....
c) Try freeware such as Seaclear ....... I use it, many use it and it accpets a various amount of chart forms including certain commercial styles ......

so where are we ?

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gps-navigator/

You will need to create a Yahoo profile and then use that to enter .....

There are a lot of things available for you for PC use ..... tides, sail set programs, vectoring, GPS, planning etc. etc.

The basic thing is : Don't spend money before checking out with a large group of established and new users ..... they will pass on what they found .... good and bad !!

Try the Raymarine raytech softare for free (if you have a shiny internet line to go with the PC that is !)

You can do quite a bit with this free version including downloading and animating 3 day weather forecasts.

Cheers!
